One engine and gear box builder who i was talking once said to me that when he rebuilds an entire car (both engine and gearbox) he will then go match the clutch to the power levels... but also makes sure that the clutch has a lower power rating than the gearbox/driveline. in most cases his theory is right as he pretty much knows how much power each type of box can take.

yeah common for high performance cars to use a clutch rated for lower power levels to protect the rest of the drivtrain. common sense really, easy to replace, cheap to replace. quick to replace. just makes sence
