My bro is about to get the exhaust done on his 1.8 BA, and he reckons everyone wants to do 2" (fine...) and also put on a 'hotdog' between the muffler and cat conv. Whats the point of it? I really cant imagine its going to help performance, it would just be deadening the sound a bit yea? (took the first mufflers off of a VT SS and it sounded sweeeettt) Whats the point then apart from screwing more money out of him? Price was $450 cat back for the 2" piping, new muffler, hotdog thing, and some polished tip (Tuffy at Epping, Quickfit said $550).

Cheers guys

Hotdog should get rid of that annoying raspy sound associated with twin cam motors. Also the car can be be too loud without one... so loud its uncomfortable to drive down the highway.. I have one and as far as I know it doesnt take power away because its a straight through muffler...[/colorost_uid0]

Purely to keep the noise down a bit, don't see any loss of power either. May not need it if going 2" though, can always be added in later if you find it too annoying.[/colorost_uid0]

are we talking a "hot dog" ie a really restrictive long baffled muffler that kills your performance...or just a resonator....cause i had a hot dog put on mine for a day so i could report to the transport place for my defect for noise....and u could notice it alright.....atm i just put my old resonator back on still loud as all **** tho[/colorost_uid2]

Does anyone have a HOTDOG thing on their system. As when I get mine done I want the look and performance, but not so much the sound.

I dont like the sound the hotdog gives ,so i got straight through resonators fitted, quietend it down a little but made it sound deeper at the same time for mine and didnt rob the power too much [/colorost_uid0]

So do you mean that you are getting a straight through resonator, plus a muffler ??? Or just a resonator??
Cause i Got 2 18inch long resonators, plus the straight through 2 & a half inch turbo smart muffler on mine, and its still quite loud :O[/colorost_uid0]

Yeah im pretty happy with it,it took 3 attempts to get the right sound but
It has changed its sound a little since then cause i recently fitted another resonator,it quietened it a little but made it deeper again
Hope you get the sound you want straight up,not like the trouble & expense i went through ???

Catch ya [/colorost_uid0]
