Intercooler Size for BPT with VF10
In the final stages of completing BPT swap into my Eunos 30x, which I plan on running 14-15psi through a VF10 Hybrid,
So Im trying to keep the aircon by not removing the condenser, so I need to get a Intercooler small enough (no wider than 63mm and no higher 220mm) that will slip between the condenser and the power steering lines, exactly like this setup below: Will the following intercooler with a Core Dimension of : 600 x 220 x 55mm be enough to handle such a setup? Its just be a ebay cheapie Ive asked the seller for further details including Max HP rating and Working Pressure Any reccomendations on brands or further info I should know ? The misconception an intercooler will help you make more power or restrict power. Isa in General a False one. It's only a heatsoak device and yes a bigger more efficent one will do so.
but considering the fact your only on full boost and require full heat transfer only about 50% of the time. It won't stop you makeing a full out on run one off pass. I've been using stock coolers on most of my turbo car where they are front mounted and flow well enough. I swap a stocker Tx-5 cooler for a Xr-6 cooler - two days later no boost changes the turbo bent a fin on the compressor blades ? - With stock airbox too. No real noticed adfded flow or restriction and no real gain in power. On cars like a WRX - extra power is not made going front mount it's just removal of heat soak. So you get more consistant runs at higher power levels. A Good intercooler - front mounted, Should actually have an effect, Normall a simple laser temp check shows intake side about 1-30 above ambiant and the outlet at ambiant temp. It's really noticable on cold nights with your hand. Alot of these larger flowing intercoolers flow better. But can't even ahceive aa similar result because the air flows too quickly across internally or externally. But all these power gains are small. Turbo is well sized - boost level resonable - you could run a simple A4 size cooler and unless you were on a race track for a 1 hour long race would you see an advantage in even larger cooler. |

Smaller is better unless you have some massive T04Z hanging off the engine. No point in putting a giant ebay cooler in there as it will just make the engine seem laggy as it fills up the cooler, plus it can create boost bleed off up top.

the mishimoto one in the pic would only be 450mm wide. lots of 450x180x50mm ones on ebay. I doubt a VF10 will out puff any intercooler on the market.
edit// After 2 minutes of googling, It is a Mishimoto Universal Z Line intercooler, 520x158x57mm. |

Cheers guys, yeah def wanting to have the cooler hidden and avoid a giant cooler hanging off the front of the car haha, smaller is better to fit in the limited space. Cheers Project R, I knew the details of the Mishimoto cooler but with shipping its priced at around $440, so I'll settle for the apexi.
Thanks everyone for the info |

Damn Mishimoto make some really nice gear. And less than $200 for that intercooler before shipping is a great price.
