brake caliper repair-rear
Overhauled the one of the rear brake caliper due to a leak . brake fluid was leaking into the adjuster screw chamber causing it to lose pressure during breaking. As a result that side was not applying enough break and the other side was over compensating with excess pad wear.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This was the culprit......worn 'O' ring on the adjuster screw ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [IMG]http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u154/asangag/IMG_4991_zpsf667fe90.jpg

Dissy Assembly
Managed to reassemble the spare distributor I pulled apart few months ago. I also found the root cause. Initially I thought its the ignitor but once I pulled it apart I found traces of oil inside the ignitor which caused leakage (volage) and intermittent misfire. This could be a common failure mode for most of these distributors.
Ignitor module ![]() ![]() Coil assembly ![]() ![]() Base of the dissy...note the shaft bearing ![]() After applying high temp silicone to seal the two units. This was sealed at the factory and I had to scrape off the old silicone and clean both surfaces before applying fresh silicone. The factory seal had broken in few places over the years and I found traces of oil inside. ![]() ![]() Once butt the two together and tightening the three screws to secure the coil assembly to the base. Note the orientation as it will only fit together in one orientation. ![]() After wiping the squeeze out ![]() Did the same for the ignition module unit. Found traces of oil in here as well. In fact the seal was completely broken and there was quite a bit of oil inside which would have grounded the secondary coil intermittently. ![]() ![]() After the assembly ![]() Screws to connect the ignitor to the coil ![]() The metal disk ![]() The rotating plate (shutter blades). shutter blade to disrupt the sensor’s magnetic window and trip the switch (transistor). ![]() ![]() The shaft that rotor plugs into, Note the orientation ![]() ![]() Tighten the center screw ![]()

Putting the plastic shield on
![]() ![]() Now the Rotor, Note the orientation, it looks symmetrical but its NOT, it can be fitted in all 3 orientations BUT only goes down fully (until it clicks) in one orientation! ![]() ![]() ![]() The rotor is fully in now ![]() Small gap between the rotor and the plastic shield ![]() Putting the cover on ![]() Tighten the two screws and leave it for 24hrs for the silicon to fully cure ![]() Finally the 'O' ring ![]() Done! ![]()

Thats some good info about the dissy, was about to diagnose what seems to be a misfire with my car. Im thinking either spark plugs or spark leads in one or two of the cylinders. Usually happens between 1800 and 2300 rpm when cruising/sitting on throttle. Might be my dissy aswell. Will have to check it out.

Do you mind posting this post up into a sticky in the mechanical section too? It's the most detailed description and photography I've ever seen on this.
