Got a quote from ABS today of $987.50 to install an Exedy HD Including machining the flywheel, of course price includes parts.

i intend on looking at options as they are a burb over in the wrong direction for a work week, but would like to know if this is a decent base line to budget for.

Clutch - $350-400 [Exedy HD, not el cheapo!]
Machine flywheel - $50
Balance flywheel - $?
Transmission fluid - $30-45
Labour - 3.5hours at Mazda
Hourly rate - $80~90 + GST

Buy a clutch, and get it done at Mazda.

There you go,
Gav.

To help with your understandable anxiety (always worries me when I take my car somewhere new for major repairs), this job isn't rocket science for experienced work shop but, is a little bigger job than a service Get the right parts, as Gav suggested, Exedy clutch. Strong, sure pressure plate & good clutch plate compound. Mazda workshop know thier stuff & will have senior experienced staff working Get a quote, laughing!

I dunno if you can trust anyone to balance the flywheel. Oldmac Mazda Springwood send your flywheel across the HWY to Slacks Creek to get it machined. But I know the guy they use can balance a flywheel. Getting them to pass on the message to have it balanced is virtually impossible though. ABS at Springwood don't balance AFAIK, but do machine.

I can even do the job myself is over 15 years experiance on mazda enough for ya - no apprentice doing it if i do it .

Yeah, it was me. Last I looked mine were still there, but quite curled up. They are very stealthy and slim ballasts, but even still, he should recognise the igniters, etc.

Gav.

install my new springs in the bak today. havent done the fronts yet due to a stipeed bolt.

Only problem now is that the bak is scrubbing pretty bad, go around a corner with nobody else in the car and it scrubs..
