Or u could look at
http://www.corksport.com/main.php3?p...3Fcat%3D220753

I would be of the opinion that any of these rotors would be better than dba.

Shuddering is also an expected part of the slotting. You are feeling vibration through the pedal as the leading edges of the pads wipes across the slot.

Are the problems actually associated with out of tolerance runout, hot spots on te rotors or is it just 'the vibe of it'?

runout. from real high speeds it's nasty. the whole car shakes badly!

at lower speeds it's ok, but when under say 20kph and you're braking lightly, the car jurks back and forward slightly as the pad runs over the "warped" bit.

Was referring more to ezin's comments more than anything else.

Have you been an abuser on your brakes twilight?

Yeah, i know slotted disc's r meant to be a bit more noisy, but u should not feel it through the pedal, just hear it, otherwise there is something wrong, all the discs i have had trouble with have been due to hot spots causing the discs to warp as they cool down, Its all to do with the quality of the steel used because this should not happen.(unless u cool hot discs down with the hose accidently) Some discs warp some dont, u can only hope u get a set of disc from a good batch of castings. Good luck

response from Trevor @ brake distributors.....will keep yowl informed of where this goes from here....

I was looking into the best and most cost effective method.
Which rotors are you thinking of with the 304mm diameter?
Front wheel drives are often more difficult than rear wheel drives to mod
front ends and none of our other friendly brake companies around Aust have
done a conversion on the 323. That does not mean that it is not possible,
just that we would need to invent the wheel (so to speak).
As for DBA slotted rotors (straight replacement - fit straight on) prices
are $125 each (front and rears are the same price) plus freight ex Labrador
(GST inc).
We have no computerised listing on the hoses so I would need to copy them
off a sample of your existing ones. Prices are $88 for a 3 fitting hose and
$83 for a 2 fitting hose (difference is normally if the hose has a centre
locating fitting)
As for Hawk the HPS Plus pads list a front but NO back. However the fronts
are not available in Australia and would need to be brought in in the next
shipment - waiting time - approx 4 weeks. Price is around the $210 mark
EBC list a Green pad for this vehicle and I am currently waiting on a reply
as to pricing and availability in Aust.
I will let you know later

Just on the DBA rotors, I got the slotted DBA rotors all round on my car. At 1st when i installed them, they did make a little noise (hearing the slotts hitting the pads) But after driving the car around now i hardly hear anything (very light). They dont shudder and brake's smoothly. It stops so much better.

well i'm back ...

man i'm in some damn good company with these guys. 1 guy (Trevor, the brake distributor) makes cobra replicas when he's not doing brake stuff, 1 guy builds race circuit cars and rally cars (Paul @ RallyTorque), the other (Adrian)...well...he used to be an engineer who worked on the brabham/repco formula one cars/engines in the 1970's! yeah i think they know what they are talking about...

anyway, it's definately possible. with the series 5 calipers, the fins on the caliper above the pistons need to be removed, but other than that a pretty easy mod. they think at the moment without taking the wheels off and doing some real testing 294mm rotors on the front will work no worries, 304mm at the moment is a maybe. the main problem is the wheel (since i have the stock 16" wheel).

they said they will most likely use MY99 WRX rotors as they come in 294mm, undrilled and they have very similar offset to the SP20 rotors (wrx's have 57mm compaired to 55mm). but time will tell

they also said that EBC green pads are the way to go as most of the race guys they deal with use them and love them for great all round pads.

they are going to work out a price for me and get back to me shortly with the price etc. so for now it's buy the calipers, get the fins removed, get the caliper powder coated (i'm going to get it black with the MAZDA in silver or just metal), buy the caliper rebuild kit and i'm set!

man i cant wait to see my wheels filled with brake rotor!

thanks for putting me on to these guys SFC!

yep will check when i'm next speaking to them. i'm sure he's had no problem getting them, but might have problems getting them undrilled.

which part is the problem with them? the lug holes or the centre hub hole?

Glad to hear that there was some positive feedback. I have only had good experience with Trevor (and technical help indirectly from the guys "out the back")!

yeah he was great. like i said between those 3 guys i will never have any problems. i watched trevor make up stainless steel brake lines and he was really good. he even tested them to 3000psi (normally a car's brake pressure wont get over 300psi-ish)
