Sooo.... bit of an update with lots of photos incoming over the next few days.

So my financial situation turned on its head and i was forced to buy something much cheaper, and lucky for me i found it! So i bought this off a family friend for $400, it's a little rough around the edges but mechanically fantastic! The body is dead straight and has new bushes in the front, a clutch that was only put in 4 months ago and has been serviced regularly, but it needs some work to get roadworthy although it was registered up until yesterday when the previous owner cancelled it. Will have it on the road by tuesday.

When i bought it the list of things to do stood as follows;

- Passenger CV Needs replacing
- Drivers seat had collapsed (done)
- Both door mirrors were broken (done)
- Cam seal leak (done)
- Drivers window was serviced by someone who put some stuff in backwards so it was scraping and needed attention (done)
- Needs a rear wing (the one that goes above the rear window)
- Rear brakes were bad, needed new pads, calipers and rotors (1/2 done)
- Drivers seatbelt needs replacing (done)
- Passenger side rear sail window needs replacing
- needs a clean and to be degreased
- Needs a service

So today i got stuck into it, started the day with the drivers door (window and door mirror). The mirror shells will be painted (not sure what colour i want yet) after i finish all the other jobs that need doing (clean cookie if you're reading this and have white mirrors for me, PM!!!). I also reconstructed the doors with my door cards from the other astina for 6x9 power!

Seeing as it was a 5 minute job i also put my tail lights in from the other car.

Next thing i got onto was ripping out the drivers seat and replacing the seat belt.

new one in!

Next thing i did after lunch was the cam seal! The old one was disgusting... ugh

Then i decided to start on the brakes... by this time i was on my own (as my friend had to leave) so things slowed down considerably

The old brakes looked like this....

And the caliper didn't want to let go of the disc... lucky i had spares (<3 clean cookie)

Unfortunately i had to stop as i was running out of time... deconstructing two cars and reconstructing another on my own unfortunately sapped all of my time. Will have the help of 3 friends tomorrow for the front end stuff so hopefully most of my checklist will be sorted by sundown!

Since the light was gone and i had to start on dinner i thought i'd also tint my front indicators... not too dark just 2 very light coats and 3 coats of clear.

Other plans after finishing the list? Blacked out front/rear bumpers & tinted side indicators, install a new head unit, a good cut polish and wax, fit up the exhaust from the red astina, put my 17s on it & more low... Also need white door handles.

The last 2 days have been slow... Removed the rear sail panel but i don't have the tools to remove the one from my other car without breaking it so it's a visit from a glass specialist that's needed.

I pulled the seats and door cards out of the red car and put them in the white car as the seats from the white car had a couple of tears in them. I also pulled out my head unit and placed it in the white car. Whilst i had the interior out i shampoo'd the carpets and gave it all a proper clean.

I got the rear brake calipers, rotors and pads on and bled. I also cut the rear wing off the red car and realized i forgot to buy some glue to put it on the white car.

Growing tired of waiting for my friend who incidentally didn't show up (am quite pissed) i started to pull the front suspension setup out of the red car and i ripped the driveshaft out of the LHS hub aswell however to crack the driveshafts on the white car i will need a longer breaker bar

Currently i have my 2 complete front springs (& shocks) to go into the white car either tomorrow or tuesday and if i can find a steel pipe to go over the end of my breaker bar before then i'll crack the CV aswell and replace it.

Apart from that the only real job left to do is run the engine flush through, new oil, new spark plugs and put in the new oil and fuel filter. I also plan to repaint the mirrors black and black out the front and rear bumpers then give the car a good detail.

Well they only have carports and since theres alot of trees the leaves get everywhere. most of the crap in the background of the photos isn't mine, its just crap the other residents have piled into the back

If you have a set of spare bottom rear seat brakets I'll need a set. Threw them out accidently! Also the top piece of trim off the rear hatch. In black or grey. Not sure what your doing with the other car that's all. Going to paint the front like mine? Make sure you do the vertical brace too. Mine looks rather average with it still white!

Was about to make a post in the for sale section about parting the old hatch as i cannot be assed putting it back together to try and sell on for $500 or so. The black/grey piece of trim is spoken for as it was missing from the white car but back seat brackets you can have (i'll text you tomorrow). let me know if you want/need any other parts.

Going to paint the front like yours, but im also going to do the rear lip at the back too, hopefully it'll break up the white a little better.

Front springs are in, only a few more jobs left to do now. The car should be on the road in a matter of days with any luck.

List of remaining items:

- Service the motor & Give it a good degrease afterwards
- Glue the rear wing onto the car
- Remove old tint & glue
- Remove clutch pedal from red car and fit to white car (spring is rooted in the white car)
- Fit my 17s to the car (need to get them back from my friend first)
- Re-fit all interior trim after my new fixxed glass is fitted
- Finish cleaning the car & give it all a good cut & polish

I'll be posting a few photos of it after it's done and with any luck it'll pass roadworthy the first time.

New clutch pedal is in (wasn't as hard as i thought it would be but still fiddly). New fixxed glass is fitted, Rear wing is on the car, all interior trim pieces are back in and 2/3 of the car has been cut and polished. The motor has been halfway degreased.

Home stretch! I bought a few different paints and sandpapers today and the blades to remove the tint. The bumpers should be blacked out tomorrow, The mirrors will be painted tomorrow, Service will be done and the cut and polish job will be finished as will be the motor being degreased. Then it'll be ready for a roadworthy!

Send a message via ICQ to JDM323
heat gun or hair dryer will make tint removal much easier.

So was unable to get my hands on hair dryer or a heat gun today so I'm stuck using a razor blade to scrape it off..... very slow and annoying!

Upside is my mirrors come out alright. I used 80 grit, 240 grit and 800 grit sandpaper to sand it down and some satin black paint to paint it and i sealed it with 3 solid coats of clear. Paint was on special at super cheap for $1.60 a can so it was REALLY cheap. I'm fairly happy with how it came out except when i was refitting it to the car there was one corner of it that didn't dry properly and it now has a finger print in it. I will probably sand it back and redo it again at a later point in time but right now i could not be assed. It is fully dried in the picture, that is not wet paint.

In other news my cut and polish is finished and it has been washed and waxxed, it looks pretty decent. 2 of my windows are now without tint. The rear bumper has been blacked out however it has runs in it and needs some sanding with 1000-1200 grit sandpaper and touching up. Still need to black out the front bumper and finish degreasing the motor. After dinner tonight i will finish tinting the windows and fix the paint on the rear bumper.

why didn't you take the covers off? would've been easier than taping everything off.

how is gloss black and matte black gonna look next to each other?

Well it looks okay i guess, the clear will dull a little over the next few weeks and it will balance out.

I didnt know the covers came off... one was split a little bit anyways and would have broken if i had taken it off.

So... was cleaning up all my tools earlier and decided to take a few photos for your enjoyment! I still have not blacked out the front bumper yet and i still have not removed the rear window tint as i need to get my hands on a heat source so i can get the tint off without ruining the element.

Sort of...gonna have a few things different at the very least :P

- No black hood
- No gold rims
- Tinted front indicators
- Nightshaded rear garnish (unless i get clear tail lights then it will be matte black)

I'm also thinking of possibly getting this wing from carmate.
