Blown Engine
OKay it's probably going to be 80% likely that i stuffed my engine today.I just need a simple answer and what is the easiest swap
Its a 2001 SP20 don't know if its BJ1 BJ11 or whatever. And where is the best place to get one, I live in south coast so i need places with delivery. Also will a 2002 2003 engine fit without and stuffing around. Just after a engine that will pretty much fit itself i don't want to change ANYTHING but the engine. Cheers |

simple answer yes any bj series sp20 or ford sr2 engine will fit, i'm from wollongong myself and none of the wreakers down here have any sp20's unless there's some in nowra that i don't know of but i'm sure that they would be able to source one from somewhere else for you, and what will you be doing with the one you remove?

I have a sp20 engine for sale, its still in my daily driven sp20. It will be a straight bolt in, and I can deliver to nowra. I have a new engine and gearbox that I just bought that will be going into my car. While its still in the car your more than welcome to test drive if you come upto Sydney. Let me know |

My car is currently turbocharged with a factory standard 2.0l sp20 engine.
I recently purchased a engine complete with forged pistons and forged rods and sp20 gearbox with lsd and billet straight cut 1st to 4th gears. I will be installing this into my car I will be keeping my everything off my exhaust side and coil packs, and you can bolt on your exhaust and coil packs and away you go. If you want more poke, ive got everything pretty much all the bits at home you need to turbo a sp20, the only thing missing is the turbo and wastegate. With them 2 bits, and a ems ecu and a copy of my tune, you could have a cheap turbo sp20 if you really want Just let me know if your interested and I can PM my mobile number, I'll give you a deal on the engine Photos below of the engine and dyno charts Last edited by familiagtx; 02-08-2012 at 03:50 PM. |

nice find on the motor mate... what's next? pipes and intercooler upgrade?
you need a better intake too.... sucking in hot air is bad! I would go ahead and port out the exhaust manifold and turbo outlet pipe too, make them gasket matched... from the factory, they are too restrictive!

Okay so after 2 days at the mechanics it turns out it didn't fry it, but however it did blow a thing called the heater core ??. anyway he said they are a bitch to replace (something about taking the dash apart) and it will cost about $900 fitted does this seem right.
I guess i dodged a bullet there ..... well kinda |

It's a big job to replace, not complicated but big. The heater core is the radiator thing in the dash that air passes through when you have the heater on.

sounds about right
is the heater core leaking? do you have a wet smelly carpet? unless you really love the car and plan to keep it, replacing the heater core is usually not worth it... most people just wear a heavier jacket in winter instead, and just have the coolant lines looped off instead of having coolant flow to the heater core

Just set a weekend aside to do it.
Take plenty o pics for reference when re assembling. There isn't really a great skill in the job... But it is big and takes a long time. IMO dont bypass the heater core (well Mabey for the time being) but later when you get a weekend... Definitely do it.

My heater doesn't work either dude. My heater core is blocked.
Mine is worse than yours it seems, I get no warmth at all, even if I've been driving all day. It sucks but yeah a heavier jacket is better than the cost, at least in my opinion. Besides its almost summer again.
