Building BPT, Need advice.

Soon enough Ill start building the BPt for my BA.

What I need to know is, I have 3 motors.

Series 1 motor, with 280k kms on it
Series 2 motor (currently in car) with 180k kms on it
Series 3 motor with 140k kms on it with buggered bottom end bearing.

What I need to know, what exactly is different between the motors, and what parts are best used from each motor.

Keep in mind it will all be reconditioned.
From what I currently understand the series 1 bottom and and series 3 head are the best choices. I am unsure of the differences entirely. Manifold will have vics removed and ported with a slightly bigger throttle body (still unsure) though all the manifolds from each series are the same?

Also if this is done, what issues could i come across with registration if i use a older block?

And lastly, will i need the plate from the oil filter like on my BG for the oil lines, where do the oil lines hook up, feed and return. Also coolant lines?
I could look all that up on the BG, but Im at work and cannot currently haha

Dot use the series three motor as it doesnt have the oil and water feed hole in the front of the block.. The series 1-2 will.

wont need the oil cooler but could possibly help?, I'm not running one. May run an air cooler if temps are too high. Highly doubt it unless stressing the turbo. I'd use option 1. For simplicity. Get it cracktested, hardness checked etc. After it passes, it makes no difference how old it is.

with the hot aussie summer temps, I definitely recommend an oil cooler... mazda chose to add this to their turbo engines for a very good reason.... you can adapt the MX-5's oil cooler to work as it is an improved/more efficient design over the BG one

Some series 3 motors have the (undrilled) blanks for oil/water fittings. Talk with engine builder about which block is in best shape for rebuild/recondition. It will mean he has to examine them if possible. Just have the blanks drilled if you need.
Series 1 heads were apparently the best castings with series 3 more prone to be 'soft' and prone to casting 'shift'. But...they,series 3, have the SOB solid lifter able to be revved much harder although i'd suggest going for a shim under' if you are preparing for big revs'.

yer been there trying to retap them.. its not fun doing the oil one as u have to drill a goot 120mm into the block to get to the water supply... the water one is easy as u only have to drill 25mm into the block to get to the water supply..
