Exclamation Tech question about cooling

Hi all.
i just bought a new turbo and manifold for my 1994 BA hatch.
it appears that i may have to move my radiator forward to fit it with a fan so they dont touch.
i will be keeping ac as well.
so my question is this.

Has anyone changed out their radiator for a smaller one or had this problem before?
if so how did you overcome this issue?
i have ideas of how i am going to solve this but i am trying to find an easier way or advice on how to proceed.

im looking at maybe getting a smaller radiator and moving it across to the passenger side more so there will be no radiator in front of the turbo and just running 1 fan thats connected to both engine temp relay and ac.
other than that im wondering if anyone has used a radiator from another car,
and how did they do it.

all help is appreciated thanks

I used to run just a single fan on the passenger side due to the size of my old turbo - even with a custom manifold that optimised space useage (in terms of closeness to the block).

You could run a Civic-style narrow radiator, but i can't think of anyone that's done it in a BA before.

Or just have only one fan, and have it wired to be activated by both the thermostat and A/C. It's certainly possible.

T03/T04, so pretty big. It was close to block and standard radiator.

Still cooled fairly well, though the fan was often on. Never boiled, but it did crack 103° after being stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic for an hour on a 35°+ day. So in general it was fine. But on a hot day - and with the aircon on - it cracked the ****s so i just got used to not using it.

the 2nd fan is for the aircon. if you remove it, you should only have issues with the aircon. look lik you'll be losing the compressor by the time a dump pipe is fitted to the turbo. so it shouldn't really matter.

i've seen one of those dual core civic ones fitted to a 121 bubble with a BP in it. as long as you custom the brackets, anything will fit. and you'll loose the ability to have a 2nd fan. so you might as well go the fan removal option 1st, then other options if the fan removal option doesn't work out.

I wouldn't use a narrow radiator if at all possible. If you have a gap next to the radiator, then air will tend to flow around the radiator rather than through it. You could put some thin metal sheeting in the gap to act as a diversion panel but thats a bit of work.

Removing the A/C fan shouldn't be a big issue in terms of cooling - it will obviously affect your air con though. You could upgrade to a bigger/better cooling fan to help.

Yeah, Ryan's right - i didn't check the pic. It'll be a very tight squeeze to fit a 2.5/3" dump and keep the compressor. I had my manifold offset for this reason.

turns out its a highrise manifold.
the turbo fits on with 1 fan.
and there is more than enough room to have a big dump pipe and still keep my ac yayyy!!!
