yeah... soooo just read all of the above... have looked into it quite a bit. (with the KLZE swap to my BJ)

It isn't a misconception that unknowledged people have... its just how it is in NSW.

there are ways around that law. that is if that older engine has the exact same emissions control as the newer engine. and that it under went the same emissions testing as the newer engine. Then it is ok to use

that said.. if the older engine under went the same kind of testing as the newer engine but has different emissions control to the newer engine then you can upgrade the older engine with the later model controls.

Or...

you can put any aged motor in your car... but you must have an EPA test done and it must meet the standards of manufacture year of the car at a minimum. must also be engineered and mod plated!

so basically... save yourself the hassle in NSW and buy one that is same age or newer for an engine swap. That's why everyone always says to buy one same age or newer.

and by "proof of the motor" could simply be a receipt for purchase of the Wreck.
with the VIN of the wreck on that receipt... they can look up engine number history of that car and match it to your engine number.
or depending on who is behind the counter... just telling them you bought a wrecked car and its the engine out of that is sometimes enough. depends if its your lucky day!

Couldn't you just rip the guts out of a normal BP and throw the BPT stuff in there? Are the blocks the same?

a few differences. BPT block has oil galleries which the BP are moulded shut...mat discovered this last week. but tapping off the oil filter relocation kit you will install should be just as effective.

Im doing this

u can buy mx5 1.8 forged pistons and they will work in our bp motors. as they are all the same (basically).

this is what im doing next month

ur better off getting forged gear rather than using used bpt rods and pistons..

Not too sure what you mean in regards to what you're doing with the relocation kit. Might just be because I'm sick again.

they are cheap(er) than buying forgies. for me, they will do what I want out of the motor. for crazy (200kw+) builds then they won't last. expect to pay $150+ for a set of rods alone.

what has water galleries?

i'm aware the the oil and water feeds on the block. 94-00 blocks do not have the drilled and tapped. but you said you were gonna run the oil feed from the oil relo kit.

but how will you do the water feed and return?

i will drill and tap into the same spot as the bung is on the earlier motors. TBH I'm still not 100% as I have not seen the motors first hand.

if you are gonna do one, might as well drill and tap the oil feed then also. i still have the fittings from my old bpt motor in a box in the garage if you need thread specs.

the two plug bolts under the red arrow is what we are looking at.

although the late green hardtop has a bg version bp in it doesn't it? that should have the plugs in it?

P1 mazda built engines had the water and oil tapped. It was the P2 onward KIA bulit engines that didn't.
If you are rebuilding for a turbo it'd be quick and easy to have the block modded.

It's a f1 chassis, so I could use the motor from the spare I bought rather than the 97 version I have, which would mean the cams would drop in too!

yeah pre 96ers have same hlas as bpts. so that would be easy swap.

pre 96ers are just the same as BG BPs anyways. mazda changed a few covers, added a dynamic chamber intake, and slapped it into a BA.

post 96ers, when they had to conform to changing EPA laws, that they waved their mod wand and changed the injectors, higher bit ecu and camshafts.

you are gonna up to your eyeballs in red tape. using a F1 chassis, with a BP engine, and then add a turbo.

Actually its somewhat easier, as I will have the extra safety features not available usually.

Just takes longer to fill in the qld transport form. I have an engineer who will pass it as long as everything looks ok.

I'm assuming the second half. the first is pretty straight forward... new laws = new design...
FWIW I don't require anything to put a 4cyl into a v6 chassis, just a change of details form from QLD transport. Just a plate for the addition of turbo.
