'05 rx8
OK
so i had this car for nearly 4 months now, bought it in November '10 i couldnt beleive my eyes when i found it cus it had not a single mark on the body, perfect condition. it is a 05 Velocity Red RX8 with leather interior and no sunroof. i wanted a sunroof model a great deal, but unfortunately, those of you who have seen me have seen i am vertically challenged, so the sunroof lowers the roof lining just enough for my head to hit it when i sit in a conferable position with the seat all the way down but not leaning back too much.. so that went out the window. i was also aware that most pre05 models have a radio firmware less than such and such making it incompatible with a iphone adapter.. this was one of my deciding factors as well because changing a headunit in this car costs around 400 just for the fascia with the climate control computer that gets lost once you remove the stock HU (i actually love the stock HU and was not intending on changing it anyway) i had plans to keep the astina for a much longer time, but after standing back and thinking about it, i really wanted a more powerful car, and especially RWD. now i know nothing is impossible, but those dreams in the astina would have cost me too much time and money, so i opted for a upgrade. the 1st day i saw the car i put a deposit down immediately following a test drive and inspection, and after i negotiated the price of course. i picked the car up the very next day with a full detail and a full tank of v-power the dealership managed to loose the logbooks between the time they bought the car and the time i saw it, which was 4 days.. but the car was originally bought from them and was only ever serviced there, so fortunately all the service history was in the computers, and i got the copy off it. and the car passed the safety cert with flying colors of course. so i bought it home, admired it for a few hours and decided to buy a bodykit. found one on ebay, took a amazingly short period of time to come from the states, and after some time getting it painted and repainted i finally put it on the car also i get a set of front fender strakes as well as the rear and front accents (all brushed alu finish, dont really like chrome) and these should have been a standard on the car, but anyway (btw mazda wants $500 JUST for the fender strakes.. thankfully there is rotary13b1 and rotaryfx ) in the meantime i have done a few much needed upgrades to the stereo. first and foremost i needed a way to do all - charge my phone, listen to the music of it and use the gps on it to help me when going somewhere the 1st time. so i bought a grom iPhone/iPod/iPad adapter with a secondary line in to plug any mp3 in there (again thanks eBay) and installed it in the car. i dont have any photos of the finished product, its not much to look at, just a wire but here is the actual adapter secondly, while the bose stereo has 9 speakers, 2 of which are 9" woofers in the doors, however these are freeair and their lower frequency response is just not all there.. thye provide great mid and midlow bass, but no no low bass which is what i was missing. so i installed a 12"kicker CVR in the boot, it was quick and easy to be honest, longest part was placing the grommit back in to the firewall after the wire went through. most of the interior comes of by just the grab and pull method so that made everything SO much faster anyway here is the finished product it is not as low as legaly possibly, its still stock height (body kit didnt actually lower it) next up i will be getting a tint finally, followed by either cat-back exhaust (or a full decat from the rotor housings) or some new wheels. in reality there is nothing wrong with the stock ones, they are light(ish) strong and look good but i just want different stile found the wheels i want already just need to find some suppliers now thank you all for visiting Last edited by 70NYD; 14-02-2011 at 04:18 PM. |

looks great mate.
ive seen an influx of rx8s on the roads recently... was there like a backorder? lol they sound odd going past... they're oddly silent which im guessing is the rotary experience, so a nice catback would be great.

Nice car mate,
I have always liked these since I got to drive one flat out around Willowbank raceway when they were brand new. It was a lot of fun sliding it round and I remember hearing the redline buzzer 3 times when I went down the main straight I'd just hit 5th then had to slow down for the corner. I didnt see the speedo so I have no idea how fast it was. Enjoy your new car and dont drive it on the road like I did to that one on the track. |

Thanks man I drive it with respect. But I do hit the redline at least once every day to get rid of all that buildup, but that's in 1st gear (around 60-70) so only in a 80zone

ok so i went and bought some wheels on Wednesday from Stylish Wheels in moss st. was told i would have to wait (since they didnt stock these specific ones with the machined lip) until Friday (today) BUT i got a sms yesterday morning that they arrived! so in i went and in a hour they stripped my tires from the stock rims (the tires were changed a month before i bought the car) and slapped them on some Tenzo-R Type M wheels in a 18"x8" +35 configuration, pushing the wheels out to the guard more BUT NOT EVEN CLOSE TO HELLA FLUSH (*note hella flush is hella gay )
you probs seen them in the AGT thursday meet thread but let me throw a piccie up here anyway (ps im also gonna steal some of gavs and marcs as their photos came up AWESOME and i left my tripod at home.. fail) Last edited by 70NYD; 18-02-2011 at 04:21 PM. |

Very nice man. Exhaust looks classy, hows the note? Also... Do I read N6000 on the tyre?
Its kinda funny, we both went from white BA's to shiny red ones We'll have to see how the v6 holds up against the rotor one day.

The note is good, very quiet at idle and cruise, just a little louder than stock Over 4k it opens up quiet nicely, as promised, becomes sharp and raspy Il set up a sound clip during the week, I just didn't have the time today haha Quote:

I have a few updates.
I have been VERY lazy in this thread. The car ran 159.8hp (or 158.9 can't remember) on the dyno day I wanna run it on a dyno by my self, when its a little cooler temperatures, I feel like timing must have been pulled. I got some cusco goodies too Front and rear strut braces The front comes with a brake stopper and it improves handling greatly. But it did increase understeer. The rear has made the largest improvement from a single item of suspension i have bought to date (coilovers excluded). Partly because the stock rear brace is a great tyre hanger, but a very poor brace, part because this brace is so damn well made. Installing was a pain. But it was worth it. The car is very well balanced now, it doesn't oversteer or understeer, it just rides fairly flat through corners under light throttle. I can't wait to get sway bars. I am thinking of getting whiteline, but the front and rear cusco strut braces are balanced and matched to each other SO well, I really don't know if I want to veer from it. Pics to come |
