Liam's V6 Hatch
So as some of you know i recently sold my 1.8 Hatch to a friend of mine and purchased a V6 Astina. So here's a photo of it about a week after i bought it
So, good points? Motor is healthy, interior is like new, has the sunroof, is white and has low k's. It's been fairly well maintained and to be honest is better to drive than any of the other astina's i've owned to date. Bad points? I have to replace the rear rocker seal soonish as its starting to weep, the front half of it was caught in a hail storm at some point in its life, the paint on the bonnet is a little worse for wear and the clear on a small part of the rear passenger guard is lifting. it also needs a new master eventually as its not great atm. Headlights are also horrible (on a side note im looking for a new set asap if anyone has a set that hasn't broken) So plans for this car? I've already organized a set of wheels for this, black CX-7s. I want to swap the motor out for a KL-ZE (have found a couple in the country for around the $1k marker) so im going to have that done before christmas by the looks of it (will be putting in a heavy duty clutch and replacing all service items along with it). I've also decided to go with yellowspeed coils instead of bc's (was originally thinking BC golds) and i may be getting that as an early christmas present from a friend I'm also going to be swapping out the oversized airbag wheel for a nardi wheel from a BJII/MX5/Early Mazda 3. EDIT: Also forgot to mention the car should be having the hail damage pulled out and a few panels repainted including the bonnet around the end of January at which time i will also be having the bonnet "eyebrow mod" applied as i've always loved the look of it. depending on timeline. i'm probably gonna parting out the bits on my car soon(ish). worth more in parts than as a whole car. i'll have alot of suspension bits that'll work.

Pretty crappy photos but... I wasn't really happy with how they look on the car using tires with a sidewall of 35. Just doesn't look right, but it may just be the fact its still in 4x4 mode. I guess i'll have to see when it gets more low.

It's that they sit in too far due to the offset of the later-era Mazda wheels.

What are they? +52.5 or +55?
If they're +55 i'd go 20mm.

+55. I'm also considering oversized tires (40 sidewall instead of 35) as i reckon it'll look better. The flip side of it is that the tires i want DO come in 18in IF i get them with a 40 sidewall, otherwise i have to use slightly worse ones (also tire costs go down using a 40 sidewall).

So my car was smoking quite bad as you can see in the photo below....
Originally thought it could have been the nasty oil leak i had. However thats been fixxed and it has slowed the smoking somewhat. Turns out my valve stem seals are rooted and as i'm already using 20-50 i can't exactly go to a higher viscosity oil. Dumped in 2 bottles of Stop smoke today and it seems to have helped alot but i don't think it will hold for long with the way it gets driven. This means that the new motor will have to go in alot sooner than planned as the motor will cost me $1200 + service parts & a clutch vs $900-$1000 to have the heads pulled off the motor and acid dipped and new valve seals installed. I should have the new motor fully paid off within the next 2-3 weeks. I'm not so sure what else i'll need to complete the conversion without hitches & without doing it dodgy, but so far the list of jobs to be done will be: - Timing belt + Water pump - Drive and A/C Belts - Head Gasket, Rocker gaskets & sump gasket - All spark related items (Leads, plugs, dissy etc.) - Intake Cleaned and solenoids checked (re-solder if need be) - Exhaust Manifold(s) & Exhaust Gaskets - Engine & Gearbox mounts - Clutch (NPC HD Clutch will be used) - Intake will need to be moved/custom setup installed as the straight neck intake won't allow the existing one to stay. - Battery relocated to where the airbox is or moved to the boot because of the KL's intake. - Replace any cracked/old hoses - Swap the AFM for a KL one - Swap over the ECU (May also buy a haltech sprint 500 before then) The other things i'm thinking of doing when it goes in are possibly: - Lighter flywheel - Switching the intake manifold for a K8 one - Fuel pump - Clutch Master & Slave + Braided lines for both - Slotted rotors and decent pads to cope with power increase. - Swap spark out for coilpack system if i get a haltech I'd like to see this done late november possibly early december. If there's anything else i should add to the list of things to do/replace please let me know as im stockpiling parts at the moment, i'd like the car to be off the road for the least amount of time possible. |

Some new photos of the car over the last couple months of ownership.
Also Installed a new stereo. Pioneer 6" Splits in the front, Sony 6" Components in the rear, Pioneer 4ch to drive the doors, 1200 JBL 12" in a ported box driven by a 850W Pioneer mono block. Got most of this super cheap from a mate, some of it re-used from my old car. Battery in the car also died not long after i bought it, was pretty old and wouldn't charge even after topping the water levels. Used the battery out of a mates project car for a while and saved up to buy a yellow top optima battery. Got my aircon regassed last week aswell after suffering in the heat over the last few weeks. Took a shot at tinting the car myself with cheap stuff, turned out like **** but glad i gave it a go anyways. Will be getting it professionally done at some stage. On another note, i've made the last payment on my KLZE Motor and it's going to be here soon. Have been stockpiling parts and collecting bits from the wreckers really cheaply. So far i have a KLG4 Manifold, KLDE vaf, intake and ecu and a Fidanza flywheel on the way from the states. However it may not even be going into the 323, as i've bought a Mx6 gen2 dirt cheap as it does not run, so it may end up going into that instead. |

Tinting is a time consuming sport. So rewarding though. Super happy with my attempt. Welcome to buy some of it off me now it's 8+months old without fading or peeling

I reckon if i used a heatgun and did it during the day i would only need to re-do maybe one, maybe two windows. I learnt alot from this attempt, i was considering buying some quality us films from ebay but at the moment i have rego to pay, i'd like coilovers in the near future (and tyres for the wheels i have sitting) and i need to make this mx6 run. Also need to either put in the KL i have coming or Put in new valve stem seals. So i just don't have the funds available to spend on learning experiences as much as i'd like to. Need to find some full time work first!
