ok decission time. looking at this from a sensible point of view, all my 'driving' is done in the hills, $1300 spent on brakes or handling is going ot give me a better driving experience than trying to fit an aftermarket ecu to my 220 000k engine.

but then again ... fark these are cheap!!

but then again ... the bpt will be going in stock until i get used to it

but that jsut means shelving the ecu for a while

and they are ****ing cheap ... damn i hate you guys!!

That won't necessarily get us the best tune though Andrew. I don't want to spend $1300 if I am going to get a CNJ Performance type 1kW increase like Scott did.

Nate, if you get the Mircotech, it would be easier for who ever you get to put the BPT in, cos i've been told that there is alot less messing around with programing the Mircotech then it is to try and Re-Program Stock ECU and cheaper too.

hey,
just curious, are there any disadvantages to using the microtech?
is it easy to damage the engine if its not tuned properly?

I imagine it's possible unless it has a limp home feature when it detects something is wrong? Assuming it can even do that... I think the biggest worry is that it doesn't learn so you might need a summer tune and winter tune so it doesn't go outside of any tolerances? That leaves you two free tune settings, so I guess you could put in a fale safe tune just in case.

you will be keeping your old ecu to control everything but the engine.

if you tune the car yourself, tune on the conservative side. however tuning on a dyno doesnt cost a huge amount if you have base maps and it'll be worth the extra power you'll get across the board and you know your car will be as safe as it can be

You can't hurt the engine on the base tune because it runs so rich and retarded but you could damage the engine if its tuned crap and leans out heaps, detonating.

Hooking up a BPT is a piece of cake and will be exactly the same as your N/A BP.......They both use a vacumn line for the MAP sensor......just on the turbo the microtech will detect positive pressure (ie: Boost) at the MAP sensor. THere is only

- TPS (2 or 3 wires)
- Coil (2 wires)
- Water Temp (2 Wires)
- Air Temp (optional) (2Wires)
- Dizzy (2 wires...maybe 3)
- Injectors

And thats the basics in the engine bay. And I've got the one output on my MT controlling the Thermo Fan.

When I asked Archie last time how much - It was $250 for a tune. I got PITS Performance to do it for $300

Can tune yourself but your stock Oxy sensor is only a narrow band unreliable jobbie. You really need a wideband Oxy sensor up the exhaust........which you could strap in and drive around with (they are $$$$$)

Get it tuned proper or you will not make the good power. I made like another 40HP with fine tuning and drives smoother.

And no it does not self learn, but you can set cut out points....rev cut, boost cuv, water temp cut etc. The oxy sensor does nothing for the computer feedback (MT does not use it)....its only for dispay purposes on the dash/hand controller
