If you had $10,000 and a BA Astina...

Okay so as the title states, If you had a stock BA V6, which is a little worse for wear engine wise, and $10 000...

Show me your shopping list!

if i had 10k and a BA astina i'd sell it and upgrade, most logical choice. a s13/14 is easily obtainable for that as well as R32's and many others.

if i kept the BA it'd be a 2.5L KL-ZE (with cams, pulleys and lightened/balanced crank.. rev happy much?), ECU & suspension (D2's might just make it in budget.. just).

Sell BA, and then have $15,000.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

The BA is becoming a fairly old car, I would leave it alone because one day you will want to sell it to get something newer and the modifications make old cars soo much harder to sell.

Gavs got a point tho - you're increasing the cost of the car dramatically with no real return in value.

Yeah, money spent on cars that doesn't lend itself to restoring it to pristine original condition won't add any value to the car. Even restoring it will only get your top market value in most cases.

$15k would get you a nice car and even some change left over for insurance and rego. I guess you could even get yourself a nice Mazda3 with that sort of money these days.

Wow, thanks to all for your advice, and thanks marc for that thread, was interesting.

Im still not sure what route to take with my car, Gav and Dogo you both raise a valid point, However I was thinking if i put the whole 10 into the 'stina, it would hopefully make a nice reliable car for a few years to come? Particulary as i love my car and really dont intend on selling it until i have to..

I'd do what Outbakoz said.

It's not overcapitalising if you don't intend to see it in 3 years. I alwayy built mine with the justification that it was cheaper to build what i wanted than buying a WRX.

It's true though - the car + mods was less than the $45k+ for a new WRX.

Keeping in mind that 10 000 is money now, there maybe more to put towards it later, especially if rupe keeps talking about how cheap it is comapred to a WRX

There is a point where it's all about the car and it becomes distasteful to talk about money.

I'd keep the BA and maintain it as problems arise, and put the ten grand in a high interest savings account or share portfolio. Compound interest is your friend!
