So finally I have mounted & wired up my headunit, woot!

Basically had to rebend the factory cassette player cradle to accommodate the cd player. After this we had to cut up some aluminium & pop riveted it to the front mounting points of the cradle so it would still sit low, otherwise the headunit would be half under the controls for the vents! Unfortunately I dont have any shots of this...

For the outer fascia, I used a Gemini gauge cluster and cut to size, using the inner lip to fit snug up under the vent fascia, works a treat!



And also with the new unit, I upgraded speakers as well, so got some Cadence 240w 6.5" 2ways which came in at $168 with the cd player, so nice & cheap



Hopefully if the weather permits, I wanna give the whole interior a clean out, and possibly give the engine bay tomorrow, fun fun!

I see potential Marc...but definitely a crazy choice on your part....

I got some S13 brake calipers, lines and S14 calipers (inc. uprights and hubs) here if you ever want them...Ill be watching closely...

who cant resist a bargain once in a while, just took me 4+ years to see it

Thanks mate, i'll definietely let ya know if I ever do the conversion, but seeing as the rear shoes & front brakes were only replaced 8mths ago and hardly driven, I cant see teh point

I have been looking at what I can do in regards to suspension, im looking at lowering blocks for the rear and just some aftermarket lowered springs & shocks for the front, or I could go coilovers for the front More investigating/searching to be done on my behalf

you want an uncomftable drive? why get lowering blocks...most dangerous things out there and cops are picking up on it too...

Its about the only thing I have found for a wagon to lower it due to it have a leaf spring rear end... Im not that bloody silly to install those blocks, have seen the effects with hilux utes with em, and it aint pretty!

I would only get coilies if I had a bluey sedan

you can get one of the leafs pulled off of the springs...when i had the suzuki i had some put on to lift it and from memory you can remove some to lower

wouldnt that in itself be just as unsafe as throwing in blocks? as you'd be putting more load on the other leafs... i dunno, will look into it tonight...

Ok, So from the research I have done, Blocks are not illegal, the car still has to have >100mm of clearance, and can not be made out of wood or plastic (well der ). Im not going stupidly low, 2" is enough all round, so would be changing the front & rear shocks as well as springs for the front when I do lower, which will be on 15" TRX wheels...

This is basically what it'll look like


I have asked quite a few bluebird members on Aussiebluebirds.com, and they all say the same thing, which is they are fine for daily driving, which is what this car is after all

Been doing a lot of little things over the past couple afternoons, which include:

Tracing fuel leak from Carb - Tightened and given a quick tune by ear (and im partially deaf )
Tracing air leak - found to be rusted pipe going from headers to polution gear - will be bunging up tomorrow, here's the hole:

Tracing water leak/s - resealed loom plug, door rubber & window rubber, also found leak from the heater radiator behind the dash!!

Did a quick trip around the block this afternoon, seems to have a bit more pull, which is good, so hopefully the blocking of the polution gear will stop it from choofing

Boss kit arrived for it this afternoon aswell, so am now on the hunt for a Momo steering wheel, always liked the Momo Race version

Will be picking up 5 TRX wheels on Sunday that I got for $200, so apart from that, all there is to do is suspension (greg/astroboy is finding some prices atm ), tinted windows, alarm & little exhaust to do!

my old wagon S3 had rake on it. mainly because we added a extra rear leaf when it started to sag. I thought lovells would change the lot but apprently they said no point.

but yeah it was bouncey without a load but it could take fridge - bricks, bags of anything and it still had rake on it.
compared to my 626 which drops it bum with just 450kg in the boot.

your plan sounds good to me. I think it will look sweet with TRX rims polished up with the added chrome it would remind me of 1989

So on Sunday morning I took the long voyage over to Caboolture to pick up the wagon's new shoes - 15x5.5" TRX wheels Yeah they aint no fancy chrome plated dinner plates, but just what I wanted to keep with the 80's styling So for $200 I loaded up the laser with 5 rims & 7 tyres



This afternoon I used some degreaser to see how clean I could get these rims, and from just one scrub down, look beaut



Compared to a dirty one:


And side by side (clean rim on the right)


And after all that, put one up against the wagon to see what it'll look like:


I'll be sticking with the tyres that came with them, just replacing the 2 front tyres with 2 tyres I was given, so will be riding on 195/60/15 on the front, and chunky 205/60/15 on the rear... so hoping to have all tyres fitted & balanced on saturday

Cleaned another 2 rims this evening & sanding the lip on the 3rd, but will have to go over them again with a toothbrush!

Degreased & lip sanded:


Degreased & lip sanded, still needs toothbrush work This is the same on 2 rims, the other 2 are good and the 5th is painted white, wtf?


And compared to each other:


I have started masking up the spokes also so I will be painting the inside diamonds black, and clearing the whole rim, so hopefully should have all 4 rims on the car on Friday!

So this long weekend I have been busy with the wheels, interior & exterior

I finally had 2 wheels replaced, and threw them on yesterday! Its a hell of a lot better to steer, no more wobbles at 60km/h, and have added 30mm per rim side of extra tyre width

I doubt I will touch the rear in regards to lowering, it sits nice as it is,

So here are a couple shots taken this afternoon

New interior shots:





Not much of an update, but the radiator burst its top tank week before Christmas, so its been sitting dormant for a couple weeks now, so much for being a daily driver Planning on throwing another in soon (found another for $70 in Deception Bay) and start driving it again to work, the reaction of some peeps is kinda cool

Im up in the air if I wanna put the stock steelies back on and find another black centre hubcap + some chrome dress rings, but I like the fatness that is TRX wheels, decisions decisions

your a worry Marc....but I gotta give you full points for the trouble your going to with this lil' sweatheart you scored. Value is in the 'eye of the beholder' dude. I can pick a 98' Volvo S70 luxury (plush leather upholstery that would make my 300E look sad....I'm drooling....) HP turbo for very cheap @ moment. Make a nice daily huh? But I'm happy with mum's ol' MX6 with faded paint & cracked dash (even though it was a beaut sporty car years ago) as a daily. May fix it up yet?

Thanks Tim, its basically a family heirloom, so keeping it running/in order is a priority to me Its as good as buying a Gemini (which was my first choice), and there are still parts a plenty, aussiebluebirds.com's trading section is currently my best friend!

Even though its slow, rolls round corners & has that "old" smell, it always brings me back to my teen years
