Andrew's Black BJ
Hey guys, I'll post up what I've done and what I'm doing to my BJ.
The photo below is how it arrived when it was purchased. As you can see the wheels were already aftermarket, but that was the only modification done to the car (apart from a horrible sounding canon which was swiftly removed ). Any comments/thoughts appreciated. Worklog to follow below. |

Cannons are ugly and horribly loud, I've seen a lot of 2-door Lancers with them on, driving like assh*les and think their cars are fast! IDIOTs
Get rid of it is the right thing |

What're the chances of being picked up for a pod filter? Keeping the bright red P in mind.

No idea, you'll have to check with a NSW member. I'd say your better off leaving it, they provide no real performance benefit with a stock engine anyways. i've just left my stock air box and put in a K&N filter.

I am not sure about HP but mine with a SRI gives better throttle response (no hesitation) and less fuel consumption, normally got 500km out of a 45L tank but with a SRI I get around 600km under the same normal driving condition!

In reply to pod filter... Performance gains.... Extremely negligible. Better off cleaning your AFM, throttle body, doing a upper engine detox (Subaru upper engine cleaner), making sure your O2 sensor isnt old an lagging, checking timing, changing plugs.
Then after that slap a pod on.... Yes throttle response is a tad better and tiny change to lower RPM band. Realistically on these engines, they just sound epic! I currently run the auto exe Cf intake (typhoon pod with glorified carbon surround ) Also, in NSW if you have an exhaust and you have shiny parts under your car... Your bonnett definitely gets lifted. If its all stock under there, they won't lift the bonnett. I regularly get pulled over and inspected. Never had the engine bay looked at tho

I currently have a stock exhaust, but would they honestly look all that hard if they were to? |

Every time I get pulle over, my wheels (tyre plackard) gets checked, the usual rbt, liscence and rego. Get the old height stick out. Poke their head under the car checking tyres, suspension and exhaust.
And yes, you have an exhaust on the back of it like my mates cars, bonnet gets lifted everytime for a quick geeze. Then off on your way. Don't bother with the pod dude. Put a K&N drop in filter, Get out a hole saw drill hole into bottom of box, run flexible pipe down the convenient hole that is already there for you, and have it sitting behind the front bar. And if you really want more noise, get the dremmel out and grind the fins out from inside it. Spend a weekend on the stock air box, it will sound the goods (won't be legal), but it "looks stock" so you get away with it.

If you don't have an enclosed pod filter that's the risk you run. Having P plates means the chance of getting pulled over are greater, weigh that up against the very minimal power gain, if any, and a bit of noise.
