Water in Oil
Pulled dipstick and it was milky. Had a look through oil filler and I can see milky stuff around valve springs.
Is there an easy way to check if the head gasket is ok? Last edited by Astina Gold; 01-07-2012 at 12:25 AM. |

Compression test. I've got a tester you can borrow. That should tell you what's wrong.

I haven't run the car properly (ie on long trip) since I pulled the motor out and replaced timing belt, water pump, seals/valve stem seals etc. Car was left on nature strip with no spark plugs and valve cover was just sitting on (not bolted down) during a few days of wet weather, so whether this amounts to anything I'm not sure. Bonnet was toast/warped so no bonnet at the moment. Car is 90% RWC ready. I'm wondering if it is just condensation? Found the water pump pulley 30 minutes ago amongst the burnt rubble (house fire) so will clean that up and put that on. New belts yesterday at Mazda (Dayco) to go on now |

Let it run with the radiator cap off. If it doesn't stop bubbling, its a headgasket.

Anyhow, I just ran it.. took Rad Cap off to have a look and there were very, very small bubbles - nothing like a big GULP bubble, if you know what I mean. Lifted Oil cap and it was like the head on a cappuccino While it was running, I looked in oil filler and could see white oil squirting our of the Rocker holes (HLA's). Can't change oil as car is on grass and no jack EDIT: Just checked radiator level/overflow and nothing has dropped. Last edited by Astina Gold; 01-07-2012 at 09:22 PM. Reason: Added EDIT |

Rightio... today was the day with teenage Son helping!
Checked coolant level and it hadn't moved a bit. No milky stuff in there. Ran the car 'til the oil was hot. Drained it and it looked like coffee - bugger I thought Changed oil filter too just to be sure - to be sure. So much steam and water dripping out the back I thought for sure head gasket. Ran car for 30 minutes @ 4000 RPM until no steam. Kept looking under oil fill cap and wiping cream off it until a point where there was none. HLA rockers were squirting clear oil too. Checked oil level on dipstick and couldn't even read it as the oil was that clean! Yay!!! ========= Front of car caught on fire and no spark plugs. Firefighter must have pressure washed engine whilst putting out bumper, so I suspect that's where the water came from. Last edited by Astina Gold; 14-07-2012 at 06:10 PM. |

I filled my spark plug holes once when I pressure cleaned the front after being at the panel shop. Easiest way to get rid of the water was to pull the spark plugs out and drain into the bores. Although less would've been inside my engine due to the leads sealing being in place.

Well wasn't random as such. House fire - started in garage and the Astina was parked near roller door so bumper melted 95% and no bonnet (also toasted in garage) as engine was just dropped in etc.
Video footage here - media loves stuff like this: http://www.thechronicle.com.au/video...se-fire/13486/ Sons 1st car is the White 323 and only had about 20 log book hours to go for his P's. Only had valve cover to put on and it was mechanically finished! Bye bye Weber 32/36 Mrs wanted me to leave car (Astina)... but I took it (flatbed tow truck) to my Old Man's place. Spent around $800 so far on it and just couldn't walk away in finishing my youngest Daughters 1st Car project
Probably some other stuff... Last edited by Astina Gold; 15-07-2012 at 12:43 PM. |
