Cosmo's new '69 Firebird 400

I've been going through the process of buying a new project and after two months. Finally almost there... Car found, price ageed, transport sorted and a little DOTARS paper work and it can be packed onto a boat.
Clues
  • Think potato
  • CCCC
  • Not Japaneese
  • Apollo 11

I hope it's a stingray. I have had a not so secret love of them since I first saw one when I was about 10.

I briefly thought Irish, but then couldn't think of a car made in Ireland that was worth while.

EDIT: Wasn't there a car produced similar to the Caterhams?

Rodhog was right with the year = 1969
Apollo 11 is also american
CCCC is the roman numeral for 400
There is a variety of potato called Pontiac

It's in need of restoration and I want to put it back 99% original.

1969 Pontiac Firebird 400 Convertible

Four hundred cubic inches of V8

A Stingray (Vette) would have been nice except I only want the 427 and they are expensive.

Very cool. Uncommon choice which makes it more interesting, too

Needs airbags and dog dish hubcaps.

That, is so pimp.

Question: what's the rule on left hand drive? Has to be converted or exempt?

I have only looked at Vic regs. There are two sets of rules, pre 1973 and post 1973, not sure of the exact cutoff date. I don't need to do a conversion or have it labled as LHD.

Ha I was actually Thinking at the time 442 oldsmobile but must be me.

Firebirds nice.

Was 69 Comaro did a burnout for wedding recently near home.

Having sort of grown up around such cars. I actually have No love for them. Respect but NO LOVE.

Still Good for you - great crusier convertable etc. Which I think is the best and only way to have an old american car.

for me 1963 Vette with a small block is all I'd want. Other wise it would be 502 and nothing smaller, in a GTO.

Aaaaaagh,
The car is a one owner and has been sitting in his back shed forever. He is having trouble letting go and isn't completing the paperwork. If this goes on too much longer I may just have to go to LA and buy him a beer or two.

I received a letter from the government (ours) telling me that I am allowed to import the beast. One small hurdle I guess and now to follow up next week where the rest of it's at.

Well it looks like I put a deposit on a car that should never have been advertised. Now the car is still being advertised for $3,000 more than originaly advertised and no replies to e-mails etc...
Just gonna put all of my ducks in order and make his life difficult over christmas.
