Chipa's sub and SD install

Well here is some basic pics of my new sub box, amp and sound deadening installation. along the way I missed a few pics (just plain forgot to take a photo!). But the whole boot has got 1 layer of Dynamat Extreme all over and I've doubled the layers up in certain areas. Will post battery wiring pics soon.
I've used more of the Dynamat in the front doors and sealed the service holes.

Before anyone asks: The front of the sub box is mounted using a hinge on the replacement floor and the rear of it is held down by some good velcro. Slightly behind that first hinge is another hinge joining the floor panels. To get to the spare wheel the back seats tilt forward, sub box tilts forward on the hinge, majority of floor can then be lifted up to give access to the spare.

It has taken me a month to get the sound deadening done, box built, carpet laid, floor built and installed. That also included modifying the battery tray and replacing the 4 ga power lead from the front with 0 ga. Now I just need to tune the system better!

Original crappy install 50lt box total.

who needs trim?! (and yes I know I should have taken pics of the SD installed here!

The new 120lt ported box

SD on the inside of the door.

Sealing the door access holes, I have also put SD mats over this (will have pics of that soon.

ducttape is supposed to be the best stuff for holding the mdf in before laying the SD over it. The wires for the speakers go underneath directly to under the box, with excess between the box and the floor. The power has excess directly under the amp. The excess is to allow the box and floor to tilt, and yet stay in the correct location to prevent the power running along the same line as the RCA line.

Aside from the Dynamat SD What I've done is very weight neutral compared to the old setup. As I'm no longer running a second battery.

As far as I'm concerned the SD is worth every kilo (A complete builk pack only weighs 7.3 Kg's). The road noise level in my car is massively changed, especially from the rear of the car.

looks like some big bass !

My doors are very dead. They have a layer of matting and a layer of paint, inside and out. Then there's foam sandwidged between the door and the trim.

Ive got pics but my server is down.

Damn big bass. Shopping list now has a PXA-H701 or similar added, along with the new HU and better front stage I'm already looking at. Although the carputer is looking more and more tempting. Its the same price as any HU I've been looking at, plus I can do many other things.

if you get the h701 dont worry about a fancy HU - the processor makes the HU's features redundant.

Any Alpine CDA-xxxx unit - which are the ones that can interface with the processor.
Ive got a basic model a CDA-9847 and a stacker to go with my processor.

ive been tuning my front stage tonight. Im in looooove

The main problem is that I want something with a large enough screen, to easily view MP3 files/folders on DVD or HDD, which unfortunately either means ~ $2-3000 or a carputer.

If you need to get inside the door you have to cut away the SD.

It would suck but wouldnt be a big problem.

but considering its never happened in years of owning as astina, Im not going to let it hold me back from the drastic increase in sound quality.

Chipa have you thought of something like this ?

anyway this is my door. You should hear the bass coming from these things :

Definately. Even my old '86 Telstar TX5 still had the original motor's for the windows and lock solenoids.

Dogo - I have seen them, but I'm a bit worried about the interface for viewing on a screen and how easy to use the remote is. Also the sound quality doesn't appear to be shown, as I'd really like to see S/N specs.

Thanks. I found some good thin material to replace to tray with, I just need to work out how to mount it with a few rods. It isn't needed but it will be good to hide things from view and also for a little sun protection. I may just end up modifying the original shelf so it doesn't have such deep channels.
