yeah i would stick to the 5X7" thats what i did... i was thinking heavy on putting 6X9" in tooo :P and i had the clearance and all and yeah it is possiable but even if u soundeaden ur front doors it will sound sooooooooo ****.

depending on if u know anyone in the buisness u may be able to get a set of Type R 5X7" splits on ur budget as i have been through 2 sets now and the second set i got new for 160

5x7 def the best option, i got a set of mtx 3 ways in the front of mine. i picked up for 120 after i confused the sales girl into it. i had a set of jbl 5x7 but were not compatable wid the head unit so i took em back, the only ones they had similar were the mtx speakers marked $250. i told her i wanted to swap. she grabbed them an told me to have a nice day so i walked out a happy customer in deed.

Anyway back on topic, they are awsome value. will you be amping your front speakers?

Kitty runs TS-C splits (6.5") in the MX5 as the only speakers in the car, when driven from a Pioneer amp froma Pioneer deck they do a pretty good job overall. Certainly nothing to be ashamed of for a car.

That said go by your ears and pick the best sound for you... You're the one that needs to be impressed each time you crank the system up...

Sorry to hijack your thread dude, what are the speaker sizes at the front and rear for a BJ? My front ones are distorting big time.

Top right of your screen has the search button. Or you could just browse the Audio forum. There are heaps of threads on this already.

But in short, BJ doors have 5x7 in the front and 6" in the rear. The front will easily take most 6-6.5" speakers with a mounting spacer.

Go and get a set of JL Audio 5x7's, I have them in the front of my astina and they are great, awesome quality. I bought mine off Chicaboo for $80, U can get them from JB HI FI for $170...

sorry for the noobish question, but what is a "baffle"?
is it sort of a plate that goes over the 5 x 7 hole, but has a hole in it that fits the speaker (in my case a 6.5") in it?
Because atm, i have a 6.5"s screwed in the front doors, with screws only top & bottom, with holes around the outside whereas a 5x7 would fill the whole space.

yeah, it seals the front of the speaker from the back, this stops rattels and is much stronger, 12mm MDF is good for it. when i take the door cards off over the weekend ill take some pics of mine that i just made.
