I would replace the complete cv shaft ( inner and outer joints) then you know the shaft has no wear --- remember you drive hard --- did ya call Ron from A&F driveshafts last time

i hear its cheaper to replace the whole thing, cus the shaft costs more, but labour behind it is smaller, so yeah

I'd replace the whole thing for peace of mind. The cost differences aren't too great to worry about it.

Oh I should've given more info.

Both axles are 18 months old.
Gearbox has LSD fitted w/ little slip.
Car does various forms of motorsport.
Assuming I will need to replace CV fequently.

So was thinking of replace parts rather than whole bits. Wrong?

CV joint $50 vs RH axle $160...

Personally I'd just replace the outer CV as it's the part that does the most work and, from what I'm told by CV specialists, the inner joint rarely gives trouble even when worked very hard.

I've just done the outer joint on a BA using a $50 ebay 'special', but the car is stock and definitely not driven hard. Not a difficult job, but having a hoist also helps

Yeh, I was very specific at check-out to be sure, but there was no problem and the part fitted fine.

Don't know if this applies to you, but maybe look into beefier 626/Telstar driveshafts if they are a direct fit.

And now I'm even more confused.

I've found conflicking info on the cv joints. All BA Astinas have a outer spline of 26. But I have found the inner spline to be either 22 or 30 on spec sheets for BP/1.8L.

Help?

Ring A&F and get a stronger custom set made up and stop stuffing around with replacing joints or shafts all the time

So I have the right side drive shaft pulled apart. And guess what? I got a cv joint sent to me that fits a g series shaft. 30 spline count, not the 22 that I required. grrr. Lucky I booked the hoist for the 1st few hours of tomorrow...

And now the seller is telling me that I am wrong. That the G series box and shafts were used from 94-98. Which we all know is bull. "No gearbox and shaft changes in that model." he says.

He'll refund me the cost of the joint, but not the shipping cost. Grrr.
