how can i tell what bp engine i have.

Hi guys, I have just bought a 93 BA Lantis hardtop 1.8 . Now I remember when I was living in the UK that my 1.5 BA 323f had 95bhp and the 1.8s had 112. After doing a bit of the research i have found there were different versions of the bp, some having 130bhp.

So how do i tell what I have?

looking at the photo in your other thread standard delivered export BP motor. I think it's 95Kw from memory.
Most were all similar with the later Mx-5 units getting a bit more like 98Kw . Excluding the Turbo units.

93 BA dont exsist in Australia. And being in NZ, i'd giess you have a 99kw import jdm version.

You would think so but the photo in the other thread shows a NZ ADR variant not a Jap import. It has side repeaters.
It would be nice to know as It's hard to tell with NZ models what they are at times. Makes it hard to import bits at times

No front bumper indicators = JDM though.

there are no internals differences between the countries for the BA BP engines on a given year... what makes it different in terms of power are ECU tune and different rating systems

that's the weird bit, Plus What I have been finding out in NZ Car makers would mix it up. It seems they would change or add X item but that's it.

Those 3Kw I wonder how much is lost with out the good fuel

thanks for the input guys. indeed it is an import so im assuming that my engine is the same as your BPs in oz, and only the UK 1.8 BAs had a detuned BP?

I too was surprised by the registered year of the car as I also know BAs to have only been made from 94, must have been one of the first batches to be made and registered at the end of 93. Its quite uncommon but not the first time I have heard of this happening....or could have been a documentation error when it was imported.

doesn't matter what the build date is. the ecu is the important key. the OP can pull out one panel and see if it is a audn/nzdm or jdm ecu with 5 minutes work.

totally. but in the time it takes to open the bonnet. read the vin. turn on computer. post vin number. wait for answer. (which could be hours or days).

for 5 minutes work, pulling 1 panel out so you can visually see the ecu will be quicker and will get same answer.

doing both will let you know whether any parts were changed on the car before or not
