2inch will be loud...if you want performance wise youll need to get something loud...but all depends on the muffler and if you get hotdogs (silencers) installed...

If you don't want to go larger than 2" (i.e. if you think that 2.25" is too big) then you are probably better not worrying about an new exhaust.
That would mean spending money replacing the stock exhaust with something that wouldn't give you much gain.

2.25" is ok, it depends if you have silencers put into the system to quieten the volume down, or you could go with a twin-loop muffler

SP20 Exhaust
I just want something that sounds good, is there any performance gain by changing the exhaust. (does the astina come with a 2" exhaust at stock ?) or should i just change the muffler. Also will i get better throttle response with an exhaust. I am in Nowra NSW and i dont really mind travelling or spending money on it.

i went through like 4 diff mufflers and the magnaflow muffler (with one hot dog resonator) IMHO was the best sounding i had in my car.
performance gains....slight increase but its not anything mind blowing. Whack on an extractor and a CAI and it should put a smile on your face. |

What extractors should i get and sorry i am new whats a CAI. Also would a pod filter help, and do i have to do anything with the oxygen sensor or can i just take off the airbox and wack a k and n pod on there. I know i have asked a lot of questions but i really want the right advice. Okay so i just realized CAI is cold intake, IE a pod filter so can i just wack one on there.

hey mate,
Yer u can put a pod filter onto your intake as long as you keep your oxygen sensor (AFM -air flow meter) This is mine for now, changes quite often.

Im sure you will loose heaps of powa in summer, but I bet it sounds good. This is how I have done mine and I have improved it since I took this pic. Also this way you cant see the pod filter as its hidden in behind the wheel arch. Its in an enclosed area so should be OK with the cops as long as they dont look too hard as you cant see it Last edited by phildough; 09-08-2010 at 09:38 PM. |

Just be aware in NSW all filters must be in an enclosed space (doesn't apply in QLD ) and have a CAI (ducting from the front) going straight into it. In regards to the exhaust if you have a 2" already fitted stock, 2.25" will give a very slight increase in power but only minimal unless you have some extractors on there as well.

No, it would be fine as ducting to inside the wheel well is classed as an "enclosure"

Okay do all Sp20 come with 2in exhaust ?, i am getting the 2.25 on Friday for mine and am wondering do silencers make any difference to performance ?. And also do i just get any muffler from the muffler place. (Does it really matter ?) Also do extractors make much difference i am looking at the pacemaker ones ?

You are still asking some important questions and only 3 days from getting the work done. I just don't want you to drop money on something that you potentially won't like.

if its just noise your after, get an axle back, you'll maybe get 1-2kw more power, and a couple more with extractors...
take it from me, I had a 2.5" system on mine, and it was unbearable to drive with...

If you want a loud exhaust you can have mine, all you have to pay is shipping costs + $50.
I have 2.25" exhaust with 3 or 4 hotdogs and a rear canon and my exhaust is still loud and drones annoyingly. There is a 12 KW difference in my car if I have a clean air filter and no restrictor in my exhaust and having a filthy filter and a 1 inch restrictor tip in my exhaust to shut it up. |
