Got this email from car builder:
Quote:
Hello,

I have attached our tech data sheet which should assist your club with the specs of our product. You will note our specs are up there with the known brands. As an emerging product we do have to establish brand identity. You will note from our feedback, that our product is well accepted and fit for use. As an experienced vehicle builder and modifier i can guarantee the quality of our product. To quantify this i personally have worked in the automotive design industry for the past 10 years with the likes of Ford, Toyota and Holden and am familiar with engineering and specifications of vehicle materials.

I cannot offer your product at the buy price you suggest RAAmat is offering. I just wanted you guys to consider costs including duty and freight for bringing the product into Australia. Note the product is heavy so freight can stack up quick and pending on how the sound deadener is packed you can run into potential problems with logistics with OH&S.

Regards

So is there any duty we will have to pay?

and 3.2kg/m^2, that pretty heavy, what the weight of RAAMAT and DYNAMAT?

Doesn't the mazda sp20 comes already with a rubber layer at the bottom?
i think i have this under my car, got to check.

May be your one with the spray on, will be thicker and better.

double layering it with ensolite. If you didnt do ensolite it would just be $250 inc shipping.. It would just be RAAMmat (and that's 70sq meters). 70sq meters is about 18 sheets of normal sized matt.

How many sheets you reckon you need to do floor of the car aswell? hmmm

PS. Cause sea shipping is 5+ weeks, can we get a vote on which product and at which price?

As I've spent too much money I estimate.at least 3 weeks before ill have $500 to throw at this. I'm not in a hurry but ill let it sit here if its going to save me a few dollars. Have to get the car resprayed before any sound gear ventures in here!

See I'm still tossing up between getting a new car or not. But having this sound deadening equipment is vital (for me) in any car, so if I could buy it now in a group buy...and install it after I decide to keep or sell, that's all good with me

Well, how much in SQ ft does everyone think they want?
If one door is 6sq ft, and we do 4, thats 24sq ft for the doors.
Boot is probably another 24sq ft or so.
Floor would be double the boot, so 48 sq ft.

If Ryan and I go for full car (inc floors) thats 96sq ft each, so 192sq ft.
If spykey and Phil go for doors + boot, thats 48sq ft each, so 96 sq ft.
Thats a combined shipping quantity of 286 sq ft (just over the quoted 280sq ft at $1000usd)

This next calculation has a bit of error in it, because of the unacounted 6 sheets extra, but we can work that out when i next email the guy.
$3.5714... per sq foot. Therefore:
Spykey: about $171.43
Phil: about $171.43
Ryan: about $342.85
Me: about $342.85

That's based on some really rough calculations though.... :| And that just covers RAAMmat, no ensolite rubber peel+stick.

Wait, I'm thinking that the mlv or whatever for road noise could be easily sourced locally, what is this ensulite stuff do? Basically going off the sound deadener showdown site the three things used are the tiles, vinyl which weighs a ton for noise, and foam for heat and some sound absorbsion

tiles? what are they... im assuming NOT bath tiles kind of 'tiles' :|
Ensolite just looks like another form of deadner, without the aluminium sheet... It's thicker though, so it probably provides a fair wack of soundwave absorption.

Tiles is just another trade name for the aluminum layered bytul based self adhesive sheets etc, the deadener.. ill check out this stuff now... Sounds like the closed celled foam....

I recon Clark rubber would have this vinyl stuff I want.. whether its more expensive or not who knows..

hehe just made my MDF adapter plate. Dont have a jigsaw, so i used my drill to drill hole all around lol.. then use file to make it smooth

Tomorrow morning, i'll try to fit the front speakers..

Funniest thing is i went to autobarn and ask them what size of cable they recommend for 100RMS speakers.

The guy is like use 6 gauge cable. I was like this doesnt make sense, i am running my Sub which is 750RMS with 6 gauge cable and you are telling me to use 6 gauge for 100RMS speakers.

Then he said, well i would not recommend smaller cable, because i use the small 12 gauge cable to run my speakers and that without AMP.

Then i was like yeah dont worry give me the 12 gauge cable and i'll run 100RMS through it without any problem.

I was thinking if i get the 6 gauge cable how am i gonna run this to the door? lol.

Cost me 60$ for 15meters.

Hopefully that will be enough.

haha, unfortunately you are in brissy.

Then plan was to get 5x7 to 6.5" adapter. But they dont sell it.

After spending $60 on cables only, i was like am not spending another $150 on a jigsaw.. lol..

hopefully everything come out good tomorrow

i reckon the only tricky bit will be to run the new cable through the rubber thingy and the plug in the door.

apart from that everything else should be straight forward..

Autobarn sells a 5X7 to 6.5 adapter, I saw one last time I was there.
As far as the plug in the door goes it took me only a couple of minutes to remove the plugs fit the wiring and put it back together.
Good luck and take your time, the last thing you want is a screwdriver through your cone.
