box has to come out for rear, no other way of doing it as most of plastic interior sections need to me removed to get to the top of the shock.

as what dj ryry said. the hatchback is a ****house of a job to get to the rear springs/shocks. chicaboo may hav taken photos (??) last weekend when he had to get the whole boot lining out to get his new shocks in.
i got james to do mine and it took an extra 4hrs than expected! next time im paying sum1 to do it i've been quoted $60 per wheel, so it might be worth the cost of getting sum1 else to do it, rather than spending a whole weekend doing it urself and breaking a lot of plastic clips in the process

I've been wondering how much it'd cost to get it done....

well gav told me that $60/wheel this is a damn good deal, so once i've made my mind up on which shocks i'm gonna get, a place in hornsby (sydney) said they'll install them for $240. this roughly matches wholesale suspension at penrith who are sposed to be fantastic at matchin shocks, springs and doing suspension setups.
but i'm gonna ring around - yeah when i have time! - to see what the average price works out to be.

hope it all goes well w/ the installation!!! make sure you have lots of wd40 handy!!

There's about 4-6hours labour in doing all the springs/shocks/boot lining, if things go well... If you do it yourself, you can expect it to take upwards of 6hours without pnuematic tools and taking care not to break your boot trim...

yeah i'd tend to dissagree with this figure. it should only take you 30 mins to remove all the interior, 15 mins if you know what you're doing. and about 60 mins max per wheel, 30 mins if you know what you are doing.

i'd suggest removing the rear interior on a different day to break up the amount of time spent all in one hit. and also do the rear springs 1st, and then the fronts another day, etc.

Yeah, agree with ryan on that.... speaking of which, i'm doing two struts on the back of dad's charade tomorrow...

How captive are the old and new springs, will you need compressors?

Ryan, you just came up with 5hours on your time breakdown anyway, which is within the ballpark I mentioned... And it's rare that things go within my favour, so doing my shocks was an astronomical event!

The first time I had my car lowered it was done by City Suspension, and they took atleast 4hours once they got started on it. But Mitch and I lowered and swapped the shocks on his car in 5 hours with a lunch break, although he had removed the trim a day or so earlier. But we didn't run into any problems on his car. Damn, the thing that took the longest was using the spring compressors...

And the clincher, neither Greg or Ryan have had to remove the boot lining from a BJ hatch. You can go as fast as you like, but when you rush things, you **** things aswell. I still broke 1 clip taking it easy and trying to be mindfull of everything going on. The BJ hatch has to be the most annoying boot trim to remove...

Gav.

I'll 100% agree with you there Gav, the interior in the hatch is a pain in the a$$. I took upwards of 6 hours to do mine, and I pretty much know what I'm doing. Most time consuming thing is winding the spring compressors in and out so many times with a bloody hand ratchet

Please explain? Was this before or after you touched them?
If you hold the flange plate with multi-grips you can undo the said nut.

Not a bad time... I've had the trim in and out of my BJ hatch many times due to audio system changes. My estimate for the fastest time I've taken it out would be around the 20-25 mins. 10 pieces in the original setup makes for a PITA!
