Hey Geoff,
Very nice car you have there. Some interesting features and it would be great if you could provide some more information for the SP20 enthusiasts

- What gearbox modifications have been done? 210 kW at the tires is pretty much the limit of the stock G-series gearbox - evidenced by Q2CDIS recently

- How do you find the Autronic in terms of ease of programming, features etc? This was an option that I looked into but ended up going with Microtech.

- Thats an interesting intake manifold, any details that you can dish out?

Cheers,
Darryl.

Hey Orion,

Yeah this is my car, i have had it since 2002. The turbo conversion was all done custom in Australia. None of it was a over the counter bolt on parts/kits for the US or elsewhere.

I wont lie, i have blown two standard boxes myself. I was getting a half dog box made up. The company who was making it ended screwing me around, i sent them a standard shell which sat in their workshop waiting to get done. But they keep pushing my job back and back until 3yrs later when they called me wanting to start the job. I was over the wait so i told them to forget making it. It pissed me off cause it wasn't a cheap quote, and they kept pushing my job back, i guess 1 box is small compared to the work they get (i won't name names on here). The current box has been cryogenic & shot peened, obviously its not as strong as a dog box.

I choose the Autronic in the end cause it was the next best thing after the Motec i was looking at. I had spoken to a few car tuners and racers they all said it was as good if not a little bit better cause you don't have to buy addition sensors to get the most out of the Motec. As for for cold starts, it kicks over on the first turn even when the car sits their sometimes for months before i take it for a drive.

The intake manifold was made custom, it has a clear side window. So you can see the plenums inside. It has also been made to the longest possible, before hitting the firewall. As by doing this it gives the car a little bit more revs than the standard intake.

I have update two pics so you can see better, hope this helps.

Geoff

Thanks for the info!

What compression pistons are running? What brand(s) for the pistons and rods?

Ahh, the other thing I was wondering was about your front brakes? Are they adapted from another vehicle or an aftermarket bolt on kit? Can you give some details on them - rotor size etc?

Na, this isn't SP2NV.

SP2NV was owned by Doug (the original owner) before he sold it. Doug got the idea of turbo when he found out mine was done. SP2NV used a bolt on kit from the states, and then put a bigger turbo on.

This car was always a sleeper never wanted it for show, as my previous car got way to much attention by the cops.

8:1 compression, Argo conrods, don't remember the piston brand.

brakes were custom fitted, they were for a corvette (i was told). They are 2 spot slotted and vented, smallest wheels on the car now are 17"s. The rear have been upgraded too..

Correction: I didn't actually get the idea of a turbo from Geoff, by pure coincidence we seemed to be doing the same thing (i was collecting parts for about a year - pistons and rods etc). My obsession started from reading the forums in the states where they were doing it.

Once i found out Geoff was doing the same thing though, i won't lie: there was a competitive drive to go faster and the power bug bit pretty hard (regular trips out west to race on the weekends didn't help either - hence my love of gear boxes...)

Having seen this car in person, i must say its _very_ clean and would recommend it to a good home.
