323 Protege Starting Problems

My car stalls on starting and rough idles. Often I have to drive with two feet (this is AUTO) one to keep the accelerator revving up and the other to brake. If I dont do this the engine stalls when I slow down or stop. Very tricky to drive. This problem happens more in winter but now also in summer. Once it has warmed up it is fine.

All mechanics say "Clean the TB, Fuel Filters, Spark Plugs" but I am not so sure as I have done this before and the problem still persists. I also stopped using E10 as this car is not designed for it.

It has been a long standing problem. Perhaps some one can chip in with some ideas..

Check your intake pipe doesn't have a crack in it after the AFM.

Part of the throttlebody assembly is a motorised air bypass valve called the Idle Air Control or IAC. This opens and closes to act as a choke when it's cold and keep the car from stalling when under load. Depending on the year these are known to jam and just need a good soaking in WD40 or similar and they free-up.
