Session Initated Protocol for retards
SIP for dicks.
I have to not only describe SIP to sales people but I have to do it in a way that they can relate this to other sales reps. Let's be clear, I probably know more about SIP than you do. I just can't describe SIP in sales type words Cheers,

Oh wow, this throws me right back into when I did the Cisco CCNA course about five years ago. Can't help you on this though, maybe you could 'borrow' the language from the wikipedia page on it.
Is this for a business presentation or something similar? |

The problem is that every description I find is technical and I'm attempting to describe SIP to sales people who, while necessary, are as dumb as posts.

how in depth do you need to go? if its really simple:
its control protocol for setting up multimedia communications. its used for setting up, changing and stopping multimedia communications between 2 people online or one person broadcasting to multiple people.

Imagine you're telling your mum what SIP is and you want her to tell her friends. I'm not saying she isn't intelegent but probably not techno savy.
So words like 'protocol' or 'multimedia' and especialy H.323, Unistim or IPKTS are strictly out of bounds. Let's say for instance you're trying to save money on the phone bill and are offering Skype as an alternative.

then simplify it. forget code, forget averything technical. assymlate the core terms with things like bits of string (for codes) and say this bit of string conects the session, this bit of string carries the video, this bit of string audio blah blah blah. im sorry i cant help better cus i dont knw what SIPs are much, my mate told me bout them ages ago, and i forgot, and yesterday i looked on wikipedia but only glanced at it cus im cramming stress analysis
but iv found when im explaining stuff like thermo dynamics to my mum whos a economist so shes not very physics savvy, i assimilate things like losses to things that you can see like precipitation on a glass, things like momentum to the accelerating and breaking feeling, but then agian all of that you can actually see, explaining anything electrical is a whole different ball game.. scrap what i just posted before
SIP is transforming instant messaging, voice, and video communications, by adding intelligence and reducing cost. The new world standard for facilitating communications, SIP makes it easier to communicate with the right people, at the right time, on the right device. Last edited by Rix; 09-06-2009 at 09:38 PM. |
