Paying for repairs or going through insurance

Hey guys,

As you are well aware, my car has nearly as many hits as Elvis, and after wedding next month I will be getting both sides repaired plus hopefully having the front bumper, bonnet & rear lip repainted.

Now, if I were to buy another right hand side rear door, im thinking that would bring costs down to around $1500 or thereabouts (I havent gone and gotten quotes yet), or I could claim it via insurance with excess being $450 (im on a rating 1 for life, never made a claim in 6 years)

Would insurance cover all damages plus repaiting the bonnet, bumper & lip, or would I have to cover that with the panel beater? Do you think it would up my insurance premium come time to renew??

Im more then open for suggestions

Cheers
Marc

Even though you have the 1 for life, I would save a claim like that for when I need it. You're very lucky with your $450 excess though... Mine is like $2000

AFAIK each hit is considered a different claim so door = $450 excess, other side = $450 excess and any other damage spots $450 each $$ching$$
With that in mind I'd avoid going through insurance. Also if you're tempted to change insurance, lease a car etc... in the next few years and you're asked if you've had any at fault claims you can answer no and be honest.

Give your insurer a call, just don't tell them your name.

The BJ doors are so bloody thin that you'd be better off replacing it than to try and get a smooth finish to a rippled door.

check through crash repair suppliers and you should find that replacement panel cost far out weigh labour on repairing what you have
do as much of the strip out and reassembly as you can so that your panel man only has to do the panel and paint
and with both sides and front end better off with full respray as no blending in needed remember roof and bonnet always fade out first and with the back door you have to blend the front door and rear quarter
we got out of our repairs for 5k

You need to call your insurance company and confirm that it will me only $450.

Since some of the damage has been on the car for a while, they might deem it as gamage already there and not cover it.

Unless you have a clause that state you are allowed to have 1 at fault claim per year, your insurance premium shouldn't go up.

But if the deem all the damage as multiple claims, that will increase your premium as you'll have then had multiple claims in the past 5 years.

And you also need to get a quote to fix the damage. No good speculating without real money values attached.

I wouldn't put this through as an insurance claim as it is multiple separate accidents and will require multiple claims and excesses as well.
They will not cover the repainting of the other panels, lips etc so you will be out of pocket for those as well.

Insurance won't cover the respray and unless you can think of a plausable 'i managed to hit both sides at once' story you've got at least 2 claims there
