Engine mount ignorance

I've noticed a lot of mazda owners seem to replace their OEM engine mounts with aftermarket versions. Is this just wear and tear, or is there another sneaky reason.

Excuse my ignorance on such matters.

stiffer mounts, less engine movement, and reduces driveline "lash"

so in effect, more precise handling as the engine is solidly tethered down, as well as better off the mark. downsides? probably puts extra stress on your gearbox, and vibrates the car, as the mounts don't dampen the vibrations...

with a sport20 you might be a guinea pig too

I suspect 'wheel hop' wouldn't be a problem for him compared to us FWD'ers. At the most I would think about getting inserts for the side mounts (if they are the same design).
