Anyone using the K & N panel filter and noticing a drop in fuel economy?

I have one, and would recommend resetting your ECU to adjust for the improved air flow. Just disconnect your battery for 30mins or so should do the trick. Car seems to run rich if you dont.

Is it this simple - I've been trying to work out how to get it to sort itself out evey since I did my CAI/K&N.
I knew I should have asked, but thought that I might just have been imagining it!

It's worth a shot Pernod, especially if it's that simple - I'll have to do mine tonight after work. Let me know if it works on yours?

You dont have to disconnect the battery for 30mins dude :!: You only have to disconnect the negative terminal and hold your foot on the brake for 30seconds to drain the remaining power out ,and then its right to hook back up again

Meh whatever does it for you... I left mine off for 30mins while I watched some telly...
The main point is that you need to drain the internal capacitors so the volatile memory is erased and the computer is forced to recalibrate itself so it will adjust for your changes.

I left it off for 30sec lith the foot on the break (the 30 min option wasn't an option as the backup for the alarm ment it kept going off  )
Just went for a spin and my 'im not sure if the problem was imagined' has turned into 'if it was imagined then I'm imagining that this is better' Thanks for the help guys

Yeah just make sure you dont cross the negative and positive terminals and youll be fine.
It will spark when you put it back on, but it wont kill ya. Kind of like a small tingle in your finger.

Madness, complete madness!
I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but personally I cannot see how it would work....... Rebooting your pc does not reset your peripherals n stuff. If you add something, you need to actively adjust it. Surely the thing will go into the equivalent of 'safe mode' and run a bit richer until it leans out..... You still manually play with timing, do you not? The car still has a dizzy cap so I am making an assumption here, I could be wrong, stranger things have happened...... I just think that everytime you disconnected the battery for other reasons ie/ install of new stereo component, change of alarm, door locking mechanism, install of neons etc etc then aren't you going to be spewing if you have got your ecu running "just right"? No, for some reason it just doesn't ring true for me.... just doesn't sound right! Sorry fella's, I need more convincing before I try anything that voodoo magic. *goes back to hanging crystals over the motor and sticking tongue out on the left!* |

I disagree Kitty. When you reboot you PC it will search for new hardware.
If you change a lot of settings you reboot the PC to adjust for the changes. Same principle here. You know that the ECU will learn to cope with things like altitude, seasonal tempreture etc etc so by resetting it, it forces the ECU to learn with the current changes you made. Regards Mal
