Paint off Plastic Front Bumper

Great to have found this forum

I've been learning about painting and doing some bodywork on my 1998 Astina 323. I've done a pretty poor job on my roof but happy as it was my first attempt at this kind of thing.
I live in NE Thailand so some things are hard to find but one advantage is everything is cheap - I did my roof for about US$7 and the spoiler for about US$15 - using playdoh like stuff covered with bondo(well Thai version).

Also experimenting with bondo(firt time again) and made a back 'spoiler'.

I have come across a problem with the front panel. First, I couldn't get it off so decided to repaint it and repair whilst on the car. It is cracked and one of my dogs had been chewing it. Sanded it down but then realized it is plastic.

Any ideas as how to get the paint off the plastic? How can I smooth the bit where I sanded down too much - sandpaper? Any other ideas? Thanks

Hi there

Bodywork takes a while to master, but practice is the only way to start.

If I understand you correctly, you sanded down your bumper through the paint and primer back to the plastic. It's not really a problem. The plastic tends to be a bit more 'furry' than paint when you sand it, so after you have wet rubbed it with P800 sandpaper, I'd give it a few coats of paint and then wet rub it again with the 800. (note: you need wet/dry sandpaper to wet rub)
Once you've got a little bit of paint on there, you shouldn't be able to tell you went back to the plastic.

Then, when you've sanded back a few thin layers of paint, you should be able to continue properly with the job

hope this helps
