The ATi External Event (that causes a problem with a .sys file which causes the BSOD) is not an MS/Vista issue. ATi had a gold mine with the HD4850, and then they stuffed it up with their driver release, which worked 100 in CFX on all platforms prior to the drivers I mentioned.

The only game that doesn't like CFX is Crysis Warhead. In which case you need to go alt-tab twice to go to windowed mode and then back to full screen mode just to make both video cards run! Not many ppl CBF'd messing around with the boot.ini to fix the problem, and consequently stay on the odler 8.10 Catalyst drivers... Otherwise, my ATi's have been awesome products, and Vista has been running flawlessly (on it's own terms! ).

Cheers, Gav.

I don't know why any of you would want WD HDD's. Far too many of them go into thermal shutdown in the hot weather we get here in QLD. I've been in PC shops and overheard other customers talking about it happening to them...

...or Samsung.

I'm building a PC for Mr Payner right now, so this will be my first chance to look at W7 on his new (old) PC!

Well i did end up getting a Seagate 80gb Sata [it's just for testing and it was cheap so why not]..

I've installed W7B and i really like it.. I'm using it right now in fact!

Do we get a discount on W7 when it's officially released, I wonder?

Hey Adam, did you find W7b seemingly sat idle for a few minutes at a time during installation with no HDD light activity?

Send a message via MSN to DavoAust
wasn't expecting to read this on here.

i have W7B running on one of my work pcs. dual boot with vista. it seems a little quicker but nothing substantial. not seeing a huge incentive to ditch vista anytime soon. i have it tweaked to xp speeds

Alrighty, I just started installing W7b 64bit on my 3rd PC. Right away I notice there is no inactivity during the install at all. It's sailing through.

Bearburn: Did you install 32 or 64bit? So far you, me, and mrpayner have had the system hang during the install. So I'm just wondering if this is a 32bit thing?

The specs of the PC I'm installing on now are:
Intel E6420 2.13Ghz C2D (at least it's got 4MB cache...)
Intel DP965LT motherboard (GAY!)
Kingston 2x512MB DDR667 RAM (need more!)
Asus ATi X1600 video card (kinda gay)

I picked this PC up from work for doing a fair chunk of overtime. So far it seems I got ripped off! However, I think I will overclock the nuts off the CPU and throw some matching Kingston RAM in there, and that will do. I've got someone sending me another video card soon, so I might be able to get this up to something that I could almost run Crysis and Farcry 2 on? If so, I will give this PC a good belt with those games in W7b 64bit and report back to you!

yeh it hung for me for a little [as we discussed on the phone]. But it's working smoothly.

The only thing that's not working at the moment is the sound drivers. I tried to install the Vista drivers but it came up saying "Does not support this operating system: WNT_6.1P_32_MCE". Oh well, it's not a huge issue that the moment though..

Also, I can't get MSN Messenger to work either. Only the web version works, the version that I downloaded from MSN tries logging in, however bombs out.

I haven't tried installing any codec packs yet either. Has anyone installed the K-Lite Codec pack at all?

Windows 7 should realistically be Vista SP2.

They did such a **** up with Vista. CPU stack management *is* better but **** me the rest of the operating systems so **** you wouldnt know it.

I actually swapped to Mac OS X, as it is a brilliant OS and isnt such a resource hog.

I'm on W7b 64bit now with MSN running successfully. Please advise if you have 32bit or not if your MSN is not working. I just installed it from ninemsn and ran the Live installer with no problems. I also installed Silverlight for MS's wanky presentations when you go to their site for some propoganda... Updates are working on this version of W7b as well. Not that it has done much more than hardware at this time...

I haven't found any problems with the 64bit yet. I think I found a couple with the 32bit on the PC I was building for Adam, but he's gonna replace it anyhow.

One can then enable Crossfire and then reboot and set the ATi External Event back on.

Cheers, Gav.
I finally just got around to doing this. What a pain in the bum!
