Hi and welcome to AGT
Have a look at my car, MarcSP20 and Orions car if you are looking for ideas to increase performance. I myself have fitted an engine from the JDM Mazdaspeed Familia which came with agressive cams and high compression pistons + extractors along with lowering it with Autoexe springs and Tokico Blue shocks. I have also upgraded all sway bars and installed front and rear strut braces. Marc has installed a few suspension goodies and next month will be ordering a JDM FS-ZE. Orion is in progress of building a monster N/A Protege. |

welcome to the club, hope you enjoy your stay, you can do a lot to these cars just depends what you can find, create or customize.
mazda bravo clear side indicators fit easily, kn/kq laser wiper stalks for variable intermittent wipers is another easy and common mod. the list just goes on.

parts are hard to find if you don't know where to look since these aren't very popular cars for modifying
but fortunately, there has been a lot of information collected over the years.... check out this website: www.protegefaq.net should give you some ideas what to do and where to look

Interchangeable Mazda item that will hugely increase performance.....
Hehehehe KL-ZE .... That's if you have the time, money and the know how. 2.5L V6 makes a little SP20 go hard.. Also brake wise, I'd look at the Mazda 6 front calipers and rotors... Direct bolt on (with the 6caliper and calipers bracket) pretty sure the 2007 and onwards model runs a 297mm rotor. Looking at doing the brake upgrade my self soon. And also considering and KL swap at the end of the year

After driving a few KL-ZE engined cars I came to the conclusion that the FS-ZE is a more fun engine to drive.
It loves the revs and is a bolt in fit with no struggles and in my case did not require a mod plate. Also the KL-ZE being small capacity V6 has very little torque down low which is something my FS-ZE has lots of which makes teh car much more enjoyable when driven daily. |

I think in the SP20 it will make up for it a bit. Being a fairly light weight body.
And yeah I did consider the FS-ZE but I am kind of after something a little different too. I am thinking of doing the swap with a bone stock KL-DE. Then once the swap is completed and all the little gremlins fixed up. I will have a rebuilt high comp, forged and blueprinted, KL with cams, ported. etc. Ready to go in. That Wil make for a fairly responsive yet powerful and verry revvy engine. Exactly what I like EDIT: sorry for hijacking thread :/

I just cant see the point in having a v6 in a BJ when you can plonk a relatively stock FS-ZE and yield the same power results, and basically no wiring stuff around
Welcome to AGT mate, there are countless threads on handling for the BJ/SP20 on here, and same goes for brakes.
