Short Shift kit for BA
Hi everyone,
Have been looking around for a short shifter for my Astina and haven't had much finding one that specifically fits the BA. Are the short shift kits that fit the same year model (1997) mx-5s cross-compatible with my BA? Open to suggestions as always and thanks for any help Last edited by Green•Horn; 05-08-2016 at 08:16 AM. |

It has a bearing down the bottom to make the "tighter" throw less difficult
Non adjustable.. But way cheaper than the $199 USD ones !

Ahh I see. I think I may have found a cheaper one for like $45 with shipping. Covers the same 93-97 mazda 6 models so should be all good.
It's the same as the 2nd link you sent, just cheaper. Doesn't have the bearings or anything, drops straight in |

That's it!!!
That's exactly the problem this Astinas gear stick has!! It makes so much sense now, so simple. Thanks for posting that link... Super helpful. I think I'll make a day of it then... Change the bushes and put the short throw kit in at the same time. Will change the gear stick boot and knob while I'm at it too. Thanks for the help, very appreciated! |

18 minutes to do the bushes - The shifter is a teensy bit longer

Do you feel confident that someone that's still learning the mechanical side of things can do the bushes change? Seems relatively straight forward... I think haha
I partly bought the Astina so I could learn some basic mechanical stuff and to do it myself! |

The 4 end bushes are 15-18 minutes - Easy peesy...
Grinding the riveted bolt straight forward, another 12 Pulling the console out's "fiddly" but still as above. Putting the shift arm in will make you THINK a bit but not too much, lol

Im feeling confident about this haha
As for the console... Don't even get me started. I'm halfway through a HU install and ran out of time last weekend because just getting to the factory unit is a mission of removing 12 interior pieces for 2 screws Frustration isnt even the word. |
