if that's the North American production version then i get the feeling the Australian production version will have a few minor styling tweaks, judging by the differences between the Australian and North American Mazda 6.

That's only because the north American market has a larger segment for 6 cylinder vehicles so they re-designed it to make the actual car larger at the same time. It's closer to the old Mazda 929 if anything.

The previous shape Mazda6 was exactly the same as the rest of the world but in the US market there were the three engine platforms available. 2.3L 4cyl, 2.3L Turbo and the 3.0L V6 engine [which came from the Mazda Tribute]. The reason that Australia didn't get the V6 engine is partly to do with how the Tribute's V6 engine was designed and that it couldn't fit a smaller engine bay in right hand drive [ie sit's lower and all that jazz], plus they didn't want the car to become a fleet special.

Here are pics of the North American Mazda 6

Note the completely different rear end treatment, plus the headlights and front air dam are also different in comparison to the rest of the worlds Mazda6..

Love the look of the north-american 6. They should release it in Australia so we can rid our roads of the scum that is the commodore and falcon. They would give them a run for their money! haha

Ok you all know how the last mazda 6 was released differently in the US, was the 3 different too? I'm wondering because - will this be the model we see in Aus, or will it be altered a tad?

hmm thats true. sounds like it is the same car. Im trying to figure out which model of the 3 was unveiled. It kinda resembles the Maxx model cos it doesnt have a body kit. The Maxx model doesnt exist anymore in the current line up though. On the rear of the car in the fotos it is badged with a 2.5 for the 2.5 litre engine. Surely this isnt the SP25 is it?

Is it me, or does the rear end of the yank 6 look similar to the new FG falcon range?

Prolly just me, but thats what i first thought of when i saw the pic

And the 3 sedan looks like its morphing slowly into a hatch, but still looks very nice

I reckon it looks a lot better than the current hatch, but it's a pity the wheels don't fill the guards at all...
