hey guys...turned the car on this morning and i heard a bad noise.

it seems to be coming from the belt side of the engine and i think its like a belt hitting something...
it goes tap tap tap tap and the goes for a couple of seconds and then comes back again then stops and comes eetc..

i know it sounds like it needs oil etc but i know that this is a different sound. it almost sounds like a belt is rubbing against something. a mate said that i might need to change the timing belt

any ideas?

tony, why not just take the body from the astina, and put it on a suitable chassis. i remember seeing ages ago someone who did this with a 180sx and a morris minor?
surely finding all the parts to fit into the BA body will be extremely tedious and expensive

Same way you adjust the idle from memory. Short TEN and GND to put the ECU into diagnostic mode then twist the distributor. Check with a timing gun and remove the short.
Remember that the AUDM does not have a knock sensor so if you go nuts you'll do some damage.

9.7 sec for the 1.8 manual from memory, and about 8.3 for the V6
