My UHO44 is going to a warranty repair service center sometime this week. If the warranty check reveals it is normal I will then seek advice from the ACCC towards Prestige Communications to give me a full refund!
I believe there is a 30day cooling off period, and P.C. have been fobbing me off to Uniden and refuse to discuss returning the unit.

Ah that's no good at all gav.. i hope that you can get it sorted.. i was leaning towards the 2w uniden one lately, but now with your problems i might go back to the GME as you get a charger as well.. Plus i could buy a second one for my bro for birthday/christmas.. opps! there goes the suprise!

Oh, mine came with a charger and 4x1700mah batts too. The kit was good for the price, that's why I went through them and not Andrew's...
Before you decide wait and see how Sacah goes with his. Mine may be faulty, but I am so ferrell that Prestige Communications won't just do an outright refund at this stage.

I'm gonna go wash my new bodykit...

Hehe, bodykit is not on car, but is finally complete and sitting in garage waiting to go see Mr Bodykit Painter Uperer tomorrow afternoon for a quote... He should be able to start on it at the beginning of next week.
I will post the progress piccies in an appropriate thread.

Gav.

edit: when I said wash I meant remove heavy piles of built up dust from waiting for it to be complete...

Well, I had a listen, they seem pretty good, I have not given one to a friend to do a distance check yet, had netball tonight, shouldn't have anything on tomorrow night, will try em out then.

Hey Sacah,

How'd you go with the reception of the antenna? I found mine has a really narrow window of which way I face the unit and what angle I had it at. PM me if you wanna go for a cruise this weekend and do some testing with our Unidens...

Cheers,
Gav.

No, I found they worked pretty much anywhere, I held it up high and then put it on my car floor and it still picked up the trucks, I gave the antenna a full 360 turn too, its not a locked in one position so it should not be directional...

Consider yourself PMd

Thanks Gav,

I've PMed you back. The Gav's are going on a cruise tomorrow to test the CBs. Hopefully mine will work better talking to another Handheld...
Gav has 2 UHO44s, so this Gav can atleast have a basis for comparison with Gav's, or swap it with one of Gav's when he's not looking!

Take it easy,
Gav.

Uniden uHo44 cruise review

here are todays test results,

I bought a uHo44 from Prestige Communications with 4x1800mah batts and a trickle charger for $155. Sacah got his from Andrew's in a 2 pack and needed to supply his own batteries, don't know about price, I can't be bothered looking it up...
It's very interesting that my 2w gets crappy reception from repeaters compared to the 0.7w I tested from DSE. However despite this it speaks very good Uniden language and got a good range to Sacah in the car with the tinted windows up. In this test it $#!Ted all over the 0.7w model and came up really well and did not dissappoint at all.
Perhaps even more interesting is that where I was concerned if mine was faulty, Sacah actually got a definate dud in his 2 pack and only one of them worked today. But on our bushwalks we found they both intercepted other transmissions almost simaltaneously. So I guess we were both comparing apples...
Since Sacah has a faulty unit it will be interesting to see how he get's treated by Mr Andrew compared to my dealings with Prestige. Whether mine is 100% or not they were most addiment that they would not take receipt of my unit and stated I must go through Uniden for a replacement or repair. Gav, you can ring 1300 366 895 to get in contact with Uniden if Andrew's leave you in the lurch.

I hope this helps with your decisions,
Gav.

I loved the unit that did work, Gav and I would have been atleast 6km apart on the highway with the unit on high and it worked pretty well, when I get the other unit back I can do full benchmarks, but I think they were worth the money, I actually bought the units seperatly, they were $138 each, Andrews had free postage anywhere in Australia...

Nice going Sacah,

It's great to see Mr Andrew is taking care of you! Unlike Prestige who wouldn't have a bar of me. But atleast I know now that the repeater reception is not brilliant on mine compared to others, but it's point to point reception is fantasic. Thanks for coming along on the test cruise at such short notice Gav.
So guys I think if you want to be taken care of well, you all now know who will look after you. It only backs up what Leigh said about him when she went in and got her CB. If I ever need anymore radio equipment I've got faith in Andrew's now atleast.

Sorry for being a panic merchant,
Gav.

Just thought i'd post up this link to the Strathfield Website which has the GME Unit for $99 with the 750MAH NiMH Rechargeable Batteries included. Sadly $13 postage if you only buy this item.

Give us an indepth review of your units Leigh [Redfrog] and Tina [KKS]..

Regards
Adam.
