Chasing clunk in suspension

We put new shocks in my wife's BA Hardtop V6 a week or so ago. That got rid of a lot of the knocking noise while driving, they were past it and it was good to put them out of their misery.

I'm now conscious of other noises, mostly a clunk at low speeds over speed bumps or rough patches etc. My first thought was ball joints, second thought was suspension bushes.

What are the main failure items?
Is there a diagram available of the suspension, front and rear? I can't find anything.
Are any brands of bushes recommended over others?

did you replace the strut top bearing too? they're plastic crap and they go bad easily, making noise

but other noises could be bushes, ball joints, or sway bar links

Yep, we replaced the front strut top mounts a year or so ago when I saw they were cracked. I think this car has had some rough roads under it.

I didn't think of sway bar links. I'll have to get under the thing and have a look at the whole lot.

Thanks, everyone. I'll start checking things out. I appreciate the info of what others have found in common.
