I've been super lazy with logs Anywho, here's a quick summary.

The lamin-x tint and the smoked side indicators have gone on.
I finally gave in and went evil M on the badges.
Some lad kid kicked my grill in and snapped heaps of the supports.. I replaced it all with silver mesh which it turns out I like the look of more.
I'm going to need new coilpacks, brakes, rocker cover gasket, cat, and a whole list of other crap I can't remember off the top of my head. I'm running seriously low on cash moneys right now so it'll have to wait. I was running on two cylinders to and from work for about a week, thus the blown up cat.

I got bored and started getting creative with my rear badges. I'll post a photo of those shortly .. At some point I'll need to weld and paint some holes. I'm thinking of ditching all the SP20 stickers too .. I'm still undecided there.

That's all for now. Here's the progress shot !

Im not sure on the silver mesh with the tinted foglights. But it could look better in person.

Looking good though! I wouldn't suggest driving on 2cyl's though

It doesn't look any different in person :P It's pretty much personal taste, and I doubt anybody likes it the way I do.

My latest dilemma is this stupid cat converter.. I'm undecided about how I fix it. My quick googles led me to this...

http://www.protegegarage.com/1363-sl...d-protege.html

Is that a straight drop-in ?

yes, it's a straight bolt on... the larger diameter pipe will give a good performance increase too... the silver ones in the top two pics are designed to work with the stock exhaust manifold only (meant to be used with a turbo actually), the bottom two should work OK with a header, perhaps with some modifications

I have no idea on the quality of the cat, but base on the price and experience from many aftermarket cats, they don't last more than 2 years... vibrant has a generic high flow cat that's very expensive and durable, but my mate's shop also has specialised high flow cats designed for rotary engines that are cheaper and also very durable.... it's not a big deal... you can either get the catless version now and get a better cat welded on, or just get the catted version and use it till it dies and replace it later with a better one

So I'd want the one in the top photos ... with the right angle pipe going up to the manifold ? And that fits the stock manifold ? There's two options on the site ... to suit Mazdaspeed Protege or Protege/Protege5. Sheesh and here I was thinking that a P5 was the Mazdaspeed.

I'm thinking the high flow cat model would work then. I can just swap the cat out when it dies.

it appears that:
top one is for the MSP, includes the "J pipe" portion
bottom one is for regular Protege/Protege 5

the page is vague/confusing... but the dollar amounts seems to logically reflect the additional piping on the MSP version... it is best to contact them for clarification

if you're planning on getting a header, I'd go with the one without the "J pipe", it'll be easier to deal with later... if you want to stick to the crappy stock manifold and precat (to be 100% legal), then get the one with the "J pipe"

My mate took it out to Manly one Saturday ... called me to say it had died on the way back. My mechanic had a look today and it turns out the motor is cactus. Diagnosis: Oil go bye-bye.

So yeah. New engine.

Can I hear some suggestions ? Do I get a reco'd one? New? Used? Drive off a cliff?

Is this a serious suggestion ? I thought sourcing the ZE was a pain.
