Good luck with the plans, which I'd assume you would be putting the built motor in this?

lol.....I will be travelling with wifey....& I'm a good boy anyhows!

I know marcs but no, it was always the plan to just use the GTX for engine & parts transfer into the 2WD so, that only counts as 1 previous car really hehe. I won't really be building the B6T engine up now.

After researching the B6ZE, B6D engine, same same in the MX5, it turns out the head on these provide better flow & the blocks have a lightened crank & flywheel so they rev till 7200rpm & put out between 80-90kw stock!. The car I'm getting also has a cool sports twin system & headers so I think she'll go OK the way it is.

I proly will Turbo it sometime in the near future but @ moment I just want to enjoy driving it.

cannot say i heard the flow or lightened crank info before on the B6 motors.

i thought it was because of 10:1 comp ration pistons, massive valve overlap and timing settings. yeah max torque at 5,500rpm

hey project, Wikipedia @ it again maybe? No. apparently the MX5 got the lighter stuff. Who knows really. From what I've sourced, all the B6's are tuff engines with same block. I thought the MX5 had lower comp than that though. Jap Spec 9.4:1 & OS 9.1:1?

I'm still searching about the head & block difference Gav. Apparently the Miata engines got tjhe higher output than the stock B6 but need specifics so I can decide what to do with build when I go to do it?

Hey Tim, maybe the B6Ds are limited to the Capri and Laser, and our MX5s got a detuned B6ZE? Because the specs for the 1989 MX5 are pretty good on Redbook: http://redbook.com.au/used-cars/deta...d=124298A41534

i dont see a factory justifying to build a whole new range of parts just for one market.. for a different vehicle yes, but not just for a different market.. im gonna side with what gav said on this one at it being a detune, as the comp ratio seems to be the same

man that sounds like a plan i know mazdas can go forever, but im just saying be carefull.. nothing worse than being stuck in the middle of the bush haha.. (the bad kind )
thats one nice NA

Tony: There are subtle differences on the B6 for the RWD MX5 due to the north/south orientation of the engine. That is enough to make putting a FWD B6/T in there a total pain in the arse. That's why I suspect the B6D is used in the Capri and Laser only, whereas a detuned B6ZE is used in the MX5. I'm guessing JDM cars have a better ECU, and perhaps IM and TB [if the FSZE is anything to go by].

Cheers, Gav.

got a B6ZE (J-sepc) with some 40mm ITBs hanging off the side of it in the workshop atm. It is daves brother's leftovers from his NA6. I've been eyeing it off as there are many more options out there if you buy a NA6 over a NA8.

BP-DE (94-98 Astina/323F) and BP-ZE (94-97 MX5/Miata) are the same cams, head block, crank, rods and fuel system. They only different is the pistons 9.0:1 vs 9.4-9.7:1 (depending on which EU/JP/US/AU markets,) ignition timing, added knock sensor and ecu settings. The exturnal difference as Gav said are their also, ie:- different water flow routes, headers, intake manifold, cam cover and timing belt covers etc.

I wouldn't be surprized if Mazda had the variances between the B6 are the same a the BP engines

Back yeeeeah!!!!

Pros:
Extra HD clutch, perhaps button, as it acts exactly as the GT one did if you don't launch properly
Incredibly tight/notchy Gear shift. Much like a 924 I drove for a while
Coilovers
Compression on all cylinders between 192-200. 192 is stock!
Handles incredible

Cons:
Respray OK but not great
$380 sting for new Alternator & fan belt plus a bottom bolt from country town 3hrs from Adelaide after battery died
stupid 205/55 16 tyres. Should be 205/45 profile so will sort Monday
Noisy exhaust tail pipes/resonators so again, try & sort Monday
Valve seals could be buggered as blows bit of blueish smoke on start up though, didn't seem to use much oil

Conclusion:
No comparison with GT stock net alone GTX for power. Seems to take forever to rev anywhere near 5500rpm, the B6T rips straight to 6500rpm before you can change gear. I'm getting used to the accelaration though I guess. If I push it hard in 1st, it revs OK from then on.

Good to be back yeah!

sounds good... ya bastidge looks hot and in great condition.

Hey, if the stem seals are gone, that could be positive. It means you could get a recon head, new timing belt, get it ported and polished, a bit of go fast bits and sex it up.

Hey Chris!

Doesn't blow blue smoke anymore Just get a little oil burning smell sometimes when I get up it, that's all. Don't know what it was unless it had a sticky valve seat/seal? Motor goes hard otherwise. Just had to get used to driving without a hairdryer It has extractors & SS system etc, double pipe straight-through muffler so, sounds & drives like an MG hehe.

Best Gearbox/clutch set up I have ever drivin. Really tight & notchy.
The re-spray is growing on me, not too bad at all! Picking up a set of 17" wheels/tyres tonight cause it's running wrong profile @ moment. Should be cool then

Hey Tim,

Is your roll bar the mouse trap style that just bolts to the seat mounts? If so, are you going to get the proper one at some stage? I ask only out of a safety point of view.

Cheers and good luck with the car!
Gav.
