Is it the same as the SP20's....I was told by the mazda guy that its in the fuel tank and the part is costly and is hard to change over?

that sounds like the fuel pump. or the filter sock on the pump maybe.

i presume you're after the high pressure side filter which you'd find if you followed the intake fuel hose going into the fuel rail. on the BA its on the firewall which seems fairly common in cars.

fuel pump = fuel filter. they are the same unit.

when you change the fuel filter you're swapping the canister the fuel pump and a few other things sit in/on

must be different for the BJ because thats definitely not the case for the BA. and most other cars ive worked on.

this photo just happens to be an excellent example :
http://pics.davesole.net/albums/FuelPump/100_0107.jpg

the left page is the fuel pump - from inside the tank under the back seat.
the right is the fuel filter which is in the engine bay against the firewall.
Its called High pressure filter because its on the high pressure side of the rail rather than the low pressure return line.
the metal thing sitting in the middle is the fuel pump with filter sock sticking out the bottom( you dont normally bother changing the sock unless u need to replace the pump )

if u click and read the pacge on the right side it tells you how to change the fuel filter. its very simple just depressurize the hoses, disconnect them and put the new one in place of the old then reconnect everything.

yeah I think in the BJII there is just the sock thing on the fuel pump that used to be changed by dealers in Oz at 50,000 but we were told its now 100,000.

Actually you are right, it was the 60,000km service where the mazda mechanics used to replace them but ours told us it has been updated to 100km service now.

Twilight is correct, its totally different to what u see in that pic, i had to point the filter out to the parts guys at mazda cause they didnt know anything. They kept on saying the fuel pump sock was the only bit that filters the fuel, and i was like u guys are soo frigging dumb.
Anyway the whole assembly that houses the filter and pump costs around $80-90 which isnt to bad, i thought it would have been more.

Thanks Dogo,

Part of the 100,000 km service is to replace the Fuel Filter. Will be interesting tonight when I pick it up whether they have changed it or not ....

BA replacement schedule is every 50,000 kms

the only thing i'm pissed about changing is the fuel filter @ $90 a go, its expensive... cars i've had previoulsy fuel filters were $5 and could be replaced once a year with the cheaper price

Are you sure its the sock on the Fuel Pump. When you say Fuel Filter I would be thinking of the filter that sits on the firewall. Ie: Goes from Fuel line on Firewall (that comes from tank) into filter and out of filter into the fuel rail????

Just follow the hose back from the fuel rail.

yes i can confirm that the filter assembly hold on to the fuel pump, and is in tank

the part for the body is the one with the filter, number should be:
ZL01-13-ZE0

the part for the screen, which is a pick up, and filter for the pump:
ZL01-13-ZE1

Well wouldn't you know it ....

Got my 100K service today and strangley enough no fuel filter. When I questioned the service manager he said that they had rung Mazda and got them to send the parts required for a 100K service and no fuel filter arrived. (Bought the car second hand from a Nissan delaer, and part of the warranty is that they have to do the servicing) So I ring the very same Mazda dealer's service department who tell me that the fuel filter is indeed part of the 100K service. Back to the service manager and he claims ignorance. So I told him that my warranty requires them to service my car in accordance with the vehicle service manual, and they hadn't! So his says no problems we'll organise it for you but that will be another $42 for the filter. Sneaky little sods, this was the same department that quoted me $598.00 total for the 100K service, then yesterday rang to confirm the booking and said that would be $750.00 Well I was very polite and told them NO WAY!!!! You had quoted a specific figure which I had budgeted for and that's what I'm paying. Luckily the service manager agreed pretty quickly, so I was wondering what wouldn't get done today, could be a genuine mistake but there's a little voice in my head saying nahh!

So lesson learnt, always make sure you get the name of the person who quotes you over the phone and write it in your diary! It's always much easier to argue from facts and figures than "I spoke to some dude". Needless to say the car still needs a fuel filter but I think I will save myself the hassle and buy & install it myself.

More Moral to the Story.
Get a local mechanic to do your 100k service you could have probably almost
got a service, fuel filter,a HP fuel pump and a Fuel pressure regulator for
$750.
