Ben's MPS
Yeah, dont care that its not a Astina, but, you guys rock my socks so its getting a build thread if you like it or not.
I picked up my new bad boy today, proceeded to drive into the city to buy a lens from a guy while i was in town. Yeah, probably wasn't the best idea when im not used to the clutch. Oh well. About it: 2007 BK Luxury Sports pack. Leather seat bits Bose sound system cruise control Dual climate control and all that jazz. Factory fitted HID's/projectors LED tail lights Random other nothing bits that comes with the luxury one. Mods: K&N SRI some kind of BOV, think its a HKS. Its plumbed so it doesn't blast, i want stealth. Thats all. As of today i put Aero wipers on it from my SP20. Whats the plans? needs a epic cut and polish, its like sandpaper. Slotted rotors and some new pads. New window tint, way not dark enough for my standards. 20% all round im thinking. Maybe change the wheels, im really liking these more now Coilovers + sway bar flash tune Install my audio (bye bye bose) Need new floor mats, these ones are crap weather deflectors Repay my parents a lot of money images i took tonight in a carpark and i didn't edit them because im too lazy. Don't worry, good ones will come to those who wait. Love it man, look forward to seeing what mods you do to this ride. Can I ask how many kms it has?
Got yourself a great platform there. Are you on OzMPSClub?

What is the issue with the clutch?
How many kilometers? I've been eyeing off a few for around $15K with 140-160,000km on them, but don't really want that high mileage. Last edited by project.r.racing; 24-01-2013 at 10:17 AM. |

Everyone thinks that its going to have epic torque steer, guess what. It doesn't. Yes it does have it, but really, its nothing like your going to spin off and crash into a tree. If your steering (Which is recommended when giving it to it) you have no problems. With normal driving and a little squirt of boost at the lights, no torque steer present at all. You have to be driving it hard for it to happen. I turned a corner last night when i was taking off (Not going crazy fast or anything) and i hit a pot hole and it kind of flicked then. That's the only time i've found the torque steer under normal driving conditions. Cheers man Quote:

I have driven a MPS around willowbank racetrack and been taken for a spin around there in a MPS by Dick Johnson and they do torque steer, just not as bad as some other cars.
Best example is lift off the steering wheel and floor it. It will pull to the left or right depending on which is the shortest driveshaft. Mazda did all sorts of tricks to try and control the torque steer generated by putting that much power through the front wheels. I have thought about a MPS many times and will get one when they make a 4WD version. |

and yet under all that shiny metal, it's still a ford underneath
he's going to have a lot of fun performing a bosectomy on this car... I wouldn't bother because it'll never come out right I'd spend the time shampooing that wrinkly, cracking leather instead!

On the ball with that one Ed, gave it a polish last night, rear seats are like new, front ones are going to need a few goes.
I don't plan to go crazy with mods with this one, because a) I can't afford them and b) it really doesn't need all that much, it's all done! |

Also c) the ECU doesn't like mods and trys its hardest to return its self to stock.
And d) it's fast enough already! |

there's various tuning solutions for that car, but none of them are 100% safe, even with an upgraded fuel pump and other mods

Your first investment should be a stiffer rear engine mount.
Congrats too! Just needs some decent wheels

Phil pretty much nailed it there.
Rupe, was already done and it had the others done under warranty a few years back. I've got my SP20 wheels still, i'll see how they look on it one day Kind of keen for newer MPS wheels, but these have grown on me in the 2 days of ownership haha. |

the stock SP20 wheels won't fit
the front brakes are too big what I suggest you doing though is getting the larger Mazda5 rear brakes... the calipers and pads are the same, but mounting bracket and discs are larger... it should provide a more balanced brake setup the stock MPS rear brakes are the same as the SP23's

He meant his aftermarket 17's, not the stock 16's...
