I can assure you the hoses aren't unique either... neither are the air ducts that fit in front of the oil coolers

same parts as the US/Euro RX-8 and automatic JDM RX-8

I think you are confused by the fact that your series 1 RX-8s never came with the dual oil coolers, that's why it's unique to you
one thing is for sure, Mazdaspeed isn't what it used to be... Mazda owns it and now wants to spend as little money as possible in an unprofitable niche division... the days of beautiful well engineered truely high performance parts are long over

the last of anything truely awesome from Mazdaspeed was the RX-7 "R-Spec" parts... the R-Spec oil coolers were truely unique and better.... of course all of the R-Spec parts were accessories and never came with any factory built RX-7

Who cares where the parts came from or what they are off, there is no need to argue with everyone about everything.
Im glad to see what Rupe is doing with his car and its nice to see all these parts going to a great home.

i want to see more youtube videos of your car (in one colour? )
i think the one I've seen has either a song over it removing the turbo noise OR audio removed due to copyright..
eitherway i want to hear it!

Ha, audio removed due to copyright. Most of the sound was lost due to wind noise anyway! I think that was all from 2003!

I do have footage from Wakefield somewhere, but i've never got around to putting it up.

Oh,, and Mat: err, when it's done! I told them no rush, as i'd rather have it done right. I'm expecting a month or two though.

I think the car's performance is very amazing as it is from reading the specs... I think efforts should be concentrating on making the car look better instead (not that it doesn't look good already)

Paint comes next. I didn't see any point i doing it (and having it potentially damaged) before finishing off the mechanical work.

the RX-8 parts catalogues show that for the Japanese market, only the Mazdaspeed version and automatics came with dual oil coolers, while only the manual transmission models for Europe and US came with dual oil coolers... none of the Aussie series 1 RX-8s came with dual oil coolers, but the series 2 did (manual transmissions only)

so in otherwords, you can call it a Mazdaspeed part if you want, but it's just another part from the Mazda parts bin... nothing really special as it's used in many RX-8s around the world If it was truely a specially Mazdaspeed engineered part, then that would be a truely accurate statement Only reason Mazda even bothered to sell it as a Mazdaspeed kit in Japan at all was because none of the regular manual transmission series 1 RX-8s in Japan had dual oil coolers while the export ones did

but I understand your logic... it's the same reason behind me calling the oil cooler in my car a "Mazdaspeed" part before since it came in the Mazdaspeed Protege... except it wasn't unique to it... it existed long before the Mazdaspeed Protege came about, in the European 626/MPV/Protege

just wanted to clear up some misconceptions...

i thought mazdaspeed was like ralliart and sti and hsv and fpv, and if something is relesed from them on a production car it not just a 'factory part' as its an MS option it was not a factory part it would just be a mazda factory option otherwise and they would have been available for all everywhere in the world. like an oil cooler doesn't matter if the factory one has it if its the second half it is unique because it was released by MS as a kit. Same with STi gear for subarus yes its STi but its still a subaru part, no if buts maybes. mazdaspeed gear boiled down is just mazda gear out of a mazda parts bin. and i am pretty sure if rupe says its a MS cooler off a MS rx-8 that counts pretty dam close to MS. same as my sti carbon strut brace is off an sti. or my 550cc denso injectors hell they are made by denso but guess what they came off an STi so the are an sti part.

i am getting good at this late entry thing :P

Hey Rupe - Have you thought of putting in a power steering cooler? That is if there's room across the front of your car....

I had my new fluid bubble out slightly last year at Wakefield due to temp... It's something I'm looking at.

Never had an issue with that myself. There's not much room anymore at the front though... but I was thinking of putting a small cooler on the RHS to replace the PS loop that's jammed between my rad and IC, as it'd be a bit more effective that the current setup - and give a bit more room.

I'm going to be doing the same on the 3kgt, sticking with SMIC's but getting a much larger radiator core. Its of major interest as I have power steering lines that run all the way to the rear of the car

Thinking of using something similar to

Dynoed in current spec it made about 120kw @ 4000rpm. Why only 4000? It was leaning out/pinging too much above that apparently! Gives me an idea of a baseline which was all i wanted before the current mods - i'd guesstimate/forecast at around 135 atw if it was revving out properly. Interesting that the tune has fallen off that much...but then again it is a few years since it was last tuned. Still surprising though.

Good news is that the LSD at least made both wheels spin at the same speed on the dyno this time LOL

Engine's out, block/parts are being crack tested as a precaution.
