I have a random question.. I know the V6 astina has larger brakes/disks.. I would like to know if the 1.8L 95 model BA brake pads are the same as the 97 model BA 1.8L astina?
Thanks

BA 1.8s had two different calipers during their production

I did have a look at the calipers between the two astinas and they both have different numbers on them

that does still not explain the difference between 1.8L brakes as claimed.
sumitomo calipers have been used in famila gtx 1.8L 90-94, 323/astina 90-98. they are no difference as far as i'm aware. and if they is, they still fit the same 1177 brake pad. |

so what i am reading is, between the years of 94 - 98 in the BA astina range is that they made two different calipers during their production.
Cosmo pics as above shows the differences between the 1.8 to V6 but i noticed the years for the pads in the 1.8l shows between the years 1993 - 1997. i just wanna know about the differences on the 1.8l like Ryan's post above. what Ryan is saying the pads should fit in my 97 astina hopefully i got all that right lol

I have a Dec 97 built car. I use the 1177s.
Bendix website is never correct and I wouldn't rely on it. A few years back the site only listed the 1177s for front pads on both I4 and V6 models. Cosmo has supplied a Bendix reference for a 93-97 Mazda Lantis (JDM). In Australia we have 94-98 Mazda 323 Astinas. Different built date cars were supplied to us. Hence why the reference/parts listings are never 100% correct. Last edited by project.r.racing; 11-07-2010 at 10:11 AM. |

I'm sure i only know because i've seen Greg/Astroboy ask which BA 1.8 calipers someone has had a few times. Actually, i remember i had to check when i got him to order me some front pads many moons ago

Most catelogues list both for the I4 either because they are lazy or just covering their bases. Take a look inside your wheels it's not as if the pads are similar. If the're square and held in by pins (which I can almost guarentee they are) then they are 1177s. The 1287s slot into a cast iron bracket (no pins).

wait, cosmo that didnt explain anything.. you said that there are 2 different sets of calipers for a 1.8 BA.. the pic u showed us up there shows that 1177 is for the 1.8 and the 1287 is for the 2.0.. so why would a 1.8 have 1287 (all stock ofcourse, not hubswapping) (sik astinas question was regarding 1.8 calipers only, nothing to do with 2.0) so in short im still confused. did the 1.8 have two different sets of calipers over the course of production?

I then went on to say that looking with your eyes was the most reliable method of determining which pad you should use. IE... I4 or V6

the light in the centre of the roof, how does it detach so i could replace the bulb? is it just a lever it off thing? does it hinge from one edge? and the bulbs are they all t10 wedge's?

choice bro it is a lever it off thing, there is no hinge. just pry it apart between the cover and the surround. the bulbs are 2x t10 (L+R map lights) and a festoon bulb (door/room light) |
