Will these 17s fit?
Hi all, I'm in Sydney atm and I got some wheels for free and I was wondering if they would fit my hardtop. Spec are: 17x7.5 38mm offset, they have 205/50 r17 on atm but I would like to go to 225/40 or 45s if it were possible.
Thanks, Gus P.S. The reason I can't use the tyre and wheel calculators while I'm in Sydney I can only access the net through my phone. |

u will need the 40 profile to make them legal (roling diameter cant be more than 16mm greater than stocko) and that profile will give u a 1:1 overall height (596.1mm stock vs 595.8mm for the 40 profile) where as the 45 will give u 616mm so its just a little too big

Is that with the 225s? Also are they likely to scrub anywhere or are they okay with this offset?

215/40 or 205/40 would be better. I think you'll scrub on the struts with 225s with the top of the tyres

Is 205/40 too little tire wall though? I can't test fit either because they are 10x100 or 5x100/100 or however 10 holes on 100 pcd is written. So to put them on I'll need to get some blank hubs and have them drilled to 5x100 I think.

Not at all - i used to run 205/40s for year, and most people that have 17s will run that profile if they want to keep their speedo close to accurate.
So they're off a Subaru? You might want to price up the cost of getting new hubs made up...as it's going to far outweigh the worth of doing it, just for some free rims. I'm talking hundreds of dollars here, for either blank hubs or getting the rims redrilled. I think you're better off selling them and getting something that fits with no mods.

I think so. You'll need to talk to an engineer about it, as it's not something a backyarder (or most workshops for that matter) can do legally.

Ok I'll call around and see what hubs will be, if I do end up getting some made could they add some thickness so that the wheels would sit out a little further and the offset wouldn't matter so much? Also has anyone ever heard of 10x100 pcd before, the guy at the tyre shop that checked for buckles said he hadn't seen it before.

Multifit rims aren't uncommon - often you'll find ones that are 10 hole (5 being 4x100 & 5 being 4x114.3). They're more common than 10 hole 5x100/5x114.3
Are all 10 holes exactly the same? Or do only 5 have the tapered seat for the nuts?

From what I can see all 10 are the same, holes are all same size and same seats, and they are all in 100 pcd

Not 100% sure they are off an STi. They just look quite similar to a set I saw for sale on some site while I was trying to find out what they were, they also look quit a lot like the magnesium MS-01s that were in rupes section not long ago only with 10 holes. The only marking on them looks like a cursive mc, the guy at the tyre shop said it was tuv or something and that it means something about German DOT approval or something like that.

Also would it be unsafe/cost way too much to get the holes filled and new ones drilled in 4x100?

Yes, unsafe and i doubt you'd find anyone willing to do it.

who ever measured it for you does not know how to measure PCD. noone makes 10x100, they will be 5 of one and 5 of other making it a mulity fit.. unless the other 5 holes are purely cosmetic..

I've found a guy that says it would be $30 a corner to get hubs and rotors drilled to 5x100 and get some studs put in. Does anyone know where I could get some blank hubs for a 1.8, and roughly how much they would be?
Btw he also said it may be possible to knock out the studs that are there at the moment and drill some 5x100 holes in the current hubs and disks if there isn't any molding in between the 4x100 studs on the hubs. I could then thread the holes and use lug bolts instead of nuts, and have dual 4x100 and 5x100. Or put some studs in and use 5x100 only. Does this sound like it would be unsafe? Sorry if it doesn't make any sense. Last edited by Ford Prefect; 16-04-2010 at 01:41 PM. Reason: Info I forgot about |
