Clunk on drivers side
Hey guys.
noob here again. I got my strut and LCA brace on monday, and I fitted the strut brace with no problems. I went to put the LCA bar on but couldn't get the passanger side bolt loose, so I gave up and will do it a day that I had time. Now the problem is, is (i figured) that I loosened the drivers side bolt on my Lower control arm so i could attach the brace, but then came to the conclusion that the passanger side bolt wasn't going to loosen. So i re-fit the drivers side bolt, and did it up bloody tight (as we're talking wheels, i don't want anything to fall apart) and the thread bit so it went back in fine but now, I have a clunk in my drivers side... I think it's coming from the wheel... I can feel the clunk in the accelerator sometimes, it doesn't keep doing it over and over again... sometimes it will clunk on take-off, sometimes it will clunk when i turn the wheel... Any help is appreciated!! Pete

Wheel alignment? I know if you loosen anything down there on a BA it messes things up a fair bit. Can't really think of anything, as you can't have unseated a spring or anything like that.

Yeah,
I drove it into the garage this morning, and it was still clunking... I jacked it up and heard a bit of a clunk, and pulled the wheel off, gave everything a good push a tug to see if everything is moving or out of place, the lca bolt is still intact and the nut on the other end of the bolt is attached and intact... I gave everything another good tightening, now that i've driven it around abit, the lca bolt wouldn't have even tightened another half turn... more like a quarter... It ain't coming out... tightened the strut nuts even more as well, so they're not coming off either, took it for a spin up the street and there's no more clunking... So I dunno what the deal is... I am driving tonight, so that will probably tell me if i fixed the problem... CV joint looked normal, had a good look at everything it all looks good.

this will sound like a stupid question but have you popped the bonnet and checked you haven't left a spanner or something there? otherwise are you sure you tightened the strut brace up properly? if its loose its *possible* the strut is moving a little

check your bottom ball joints. my BG has a clunking noise when i go over some bumps and up/down a slope/driveway and its the bottom balljoint thats gone on it. i just havnt had the time to replace it. to check the ball joint raise the front end up but have the wheels free hanging with no jack/stands under them and lift the wheel (if u can) up and down and diagonally to see if the balljoint moves. if it does move then most likely its gone. check the other side to make sure that its not moving.
it might not be a ball joint thats gone but just a tip. |

Hey guys,
I seemed to have fixed the problem, or is seems to have fixed itself. I have been driving it over the weekend (almost non stop) moving my girlfriend out of one apartment and into a granny flat, and after it gave everything the tighten up, it seems to be ok... I'll let you know if it starts again... Thanks all for your help
