Oooohhhh, I see know,
I thought the clutch did all that by its self, ie clutch in one part of clutch spins, clutch out both parts of clutch spin.

wouldn't that mean if you shave some of the fly off the clutch would now have to go in further to grab the fly, so you would need to reset the clutch cable thingamabob, yeah?

Well yeah it does. I stuffed up a bit

The 'clutch' bolts to the flywheel, but it's actually the pressure plate which bolts to the flywheel. Inside the pressure plate and inbetween the fly and pressure plate it the clutch, which does the gripping.

Google is a wonderful thing.

I wouldn't sell my house over a bet on that quote
I have seen a lightened K8-ZE fly for sale before and it came to around 6.6kg (thats 14.5lbs) I believe they are somewhere around 18lb as standard, KF fly around 20-21lb and the KL flywheel tips the scales at 23 pounds
Yes the v6 flywheels are interchangeable which is why many KL powered vehicle owners do go for the lightened K8 unit.
Fidanza also do a lightweight 4.5kg aluminium flywheel to suit these applications

It would be advisable to get it balanced as if it is unbalanced it will create un-necessary wear on engine parts. A good way to see this is to get a bike wheel off the bike and attach a weight to one side and spin it. You can feel it wobbling towards where the weight is.
When balancing a rotating component there is two types of balancing, static and dynamic. Static is when it is still and is relatively easy, and dynamic is when it is spinning, and is done with a specialised machine. The higher the tolerances that are used in balancing, the smoother the part will spin, but it will be more expensive.
