SP20 on HOT, now it rattles and stalled/
So today i was driving and looked down and my temp was on the H, i immediatly put the hot air on full and coasted in neutral for about a k then stopped. I was in the middle of no where so i restarted the car and continued to drive (the temp was on just over half) i got into town finally (about 7 k's away) and it started to make a horrible rattleing noise then it just stopped. After pulling over the first time and then continuing i monitored the temp and it never got much over half in temp. Just wondering what have i F$$ked. Thinking its probably the head or something but can't put my fingure on the rattling.
PS is it okay to let it cool and try to resart it. |

Let it cool and check the coolant and oil levels before you panic.

Update
So i filled it up with water after leaving if for an hour and drove home (started no worries) but when i got home i could hear a kettle boiling sound, i lift the hood and there is steam pooring out from one of the houses behind the engine (between the engine and the firewall)
Any suggestions ?? |

Replace the hose.
It's probably the hose that broke and caused the loss of fluid and the engine overheating. You could very well be lucky and get out of it for the cost of a hose and some coolant.

rattling = engine pinking = potential serious damage
it won't be surprising to see that the head gasket has blown.... replacing whatever cooling system part won't fix it, the engine will continue to overheat because exhaust gases will mix with the coolant and cause it to get hotter... oil may mix with the water and make some chocolate milk hopefully you're lucky and that didn't happen... but 7km was a long journey for that engine to suffer sorry to be a pessimist, but I've seen many people stuff up their engines because they thought they could make it over another block... I was one of them... I now tell people to just get stranded instead of trying to make it... the inconvenience is cheaper than replacing an engine
